My pick up keeps plugging and its getting worse. I found the pick up and return at the tank and wanted to verify that the pick up is on the right of the machine. How do you get it out and back in? Looks like it is directly under the pump. Also where/is there a drain for the fuel tank? If I can drain should I rinse the tank with water and let it dry before refilling. Tired of getting out of machine every couple hours to pull the line from the bulb and blow back through it.

Thanks
Greg

fuel tank drain is under the machine. should be under a rectangular cover with 3 bolts.

So does that plug just pull out?

So This is way to weird that you are describing the the EXACT same issue that I was fighting for over a year in my machine …. And I DO Mean EXACTLY !!! ….. LOL

The plug in the bottom is threaded in …. Careful it's a Plastic Tank so try and be careful NOT to strip the threads !!! …… But that stinking hole is TOO Damn small to get anything like a potential Floater out thru there ….. YES it will allow water and dirt contaminants (finer stuff) but forget about anything like a leaf that got in there because the fuel cap got left off as I do regularly … LOL …..

I some how had my issue go away on it's own last year, but my clogging only happened once my fuel tank level got below half full …… When I drained my tank i had the front of the machine elevated ….. I used my gooseneck trailer beaver-tail & ramps, drove up far enough to get the front elevated and the butt end up so I could still crawl under the back, and remove the steel cover and then the plug (it's not that easy) and to have the machine high enough to get a 5 gal pail under to catch any fuel & debris that would hopefully wash out ….. Keep in mind that I also had my Tidy tank with the fuel pump to splash fuel in after it drained to wash out any loose stuff …..

After that whole process I still had a floater in the tank and had to deal with the plugging of the pick-up in the tank Exactly as you described ….. Cheers & Good-luck !!! …. GK

So is there a strainer on the end of the pickup? I can pull the line loose at the bulb and blow through it to clear it but it doesn't take long for power to start dropping again. Why in the hell would they put the pick up where they did?

well ive never seen a fuel tank drain that screws in...

all the ones ive seen are a rubber grommet with a steel plug inside it.

i dont remember what year they removed the strainer/check valve from the fuel pickup, and went from a flex hose/check valve to a more ridgid plastic pickup without the check valve.

most of pickup tubes on the G & K series machines arent bad to get ahold of, older 853's and the newer M series are a true PITA.

That's what this looks like a brass plug with rubber grommet.

do yourself a favor and buy a new grommet before you pull the plug.

they typically leak after they are removed.

i usually drain 3 or 4 gallons out and that gets most of the crud out of the tank.

installed the grommet by itself 1st, then push the steel plug in until it's fully seated

Well I worked on it yesterday. Drive it up on the gooseneck like Craft had done. Made it easy to work on and get a 5 gallon bucket under. Didn't seem very dirty but we'll see what happens.
Thanks
