Do I count 6 rollers? Is that normal?

I don't know if it's normal or not, but I've seen them with both 5 and 6 rollers. I ran through that when I was trying to find the correct number of track pads (to make sure they hadn't removed one to make it look better). I found some with 39 links like mine, and others that had 36 (I think). Some literature says the standard pad width was 12" but mine are 16". The true LGP configuration I think was supposed to have 24" pads, so I'm totally confused now!

I found the correct used operator's manuals and parts books on Ebay that were printed around the time this machine was built and bought them today. It'll be interesting to see what the specs come back at, but I'm not overly worried. It appears to have had a full UC put on it at some point, as all the parts are Berco and show similar amounts of wear/use.

The bummer is it's supposed to be quite cold all weekend, with snow and rain, so I don't foresee much dozer work :(

I can't remember but I think the later 931B's were up-graded to 37 pads from 36. I could be thinking of another machine though. I'd guess the 39 links and 6 rollers could be a long track version. Does your machine have the wrong stickers on it and should be D3B?

We bought a new 931 in 1972. At that time a "long track" 6 roller was optional. We got the long track and winch on ours. It was our first feller buncher dealer fitted with a now long defunct Allan shear and also a 4 in 1 bucket. Machine was great. Shear was not so well designed.

Good idea. The 27Y model should be standard tracks and the 3F/3R according to several websites, but I don't trust those as definitive.

It's 27Y02004

Yeah, they put a D3 sticker on it instead of the correct D3B. I doubt I'll spend the money to put the proper stickers on it, but it does bother me a tiny little bit :D

Go get some of those aluminum diagonal cut peel & stick letters from Ace Hardware. They always dress up the hundred dollar pickups the rednecks drive.

You could even accessorize with a flat bug guard for the hood. On it you could write something profound like Papa's Yellow Jacket.

I'm thinking "Dirt Gangsta" might be nice on the bug guard. :D

Yeahbut, if you get that you need to wear a hat with flat brim several sizes too big, turn it sideways. If the metallic stickers start to peel off, throw it away. In years past, my sons have brought a big stream of friends through this house. Several have been wiggers, white boys trying to be black. I'm not into anyone trying to be something other than what they are. Whether you are black, or white, or something else, pull your pants up, adjust your hat to fit, point the brim forward, put some curve in it. Your accent should match your place of origin. A guy I worked with was a lot of fun. The blackest human I have ever seen. His southern accent was so heavy no one understood a word he said. The guy who worked with him most got where he could understand. I'd stand there, blink, and say; "Hey Mike, what'd he say?" Otis would laugh, and try again with little success. When little white boys from rural VT try to do that it is wrong.

No telling what someone has done in the lifespan of a machine. My Dresser was supposed to have a 15" shoe. Someone has replaced them with 16". The chain & sprocket are in the opinion of the dealer parts man, for a TD8G. On mine, this meant track scrubbed the hydraulic cylinders that angle the blade.

I have less experience with them. Those who have run both say a long track is much better as a grading dozer, but harder to turn. Wider tracks reduce ground pressure, but sometimes that isn't a good thing.
