What make crack seal machines are available over there ? What make routers are available ? If you can answer those two questions I can give you a better answer.

GregD1 , I'm unsure what crack sealing machine swe have over here .
Just looking for people that may be already doing it as a business , for some opinions .

I am only thinking about adding it to my businessas work has gone quiet and every bit helps .
I have a skid steer mounted 1000mm profiler head and broom attachment and a Simex ' asphalt float ' .

Cheers

Look at www.bearcatmfg.com and www.crafco.com Both of them make their own version of a crack seal machine. They both suck for service and they are both here local and it is like pulling teeth to get service even on new units, imagine trying to get parts where you are.
Bearct has a better heat system as opposed to Crafco, but they both use the same material pump that just so happens to be made by one of the sons of the founder of Bearcat. They aren`t bad pumps, but they lack the ability to heat the rear pump section unless you get the latest and greatest pump they make.We made our own heat set up and increased life about 6 or 8 month over the orignal set up.
Then there are routers, Crafco has one and there is www.cimline.com Here again, they both suck. They cost about $10,000 each and we had Crafco`s blow up engine and cutter drums in a month. Guess what warranty was ? Nothing. Crafco blames everybody but their own design. Along with the routers you need the cutter bit. From Crafco they are about $300.00 EACH. You need 6 per machine plus pins.
Almost forgot about the crack seal hoses. Anyone not paying attention can plug up a hose in a matter of minutes at between $150.00 buying them by the 6 pack all the way up to $600.00 per hose for the best ones.
I guess there is $$$ to be made doing it, but you really ned to keep a tight reign on what goes on or the money will dissapear real fast. Good luck. PM me if you want any other info. I don`t have even half the answers, just what I had to contend with for 3 years keeping a half dozen of them running.
The cutter head won`t work for crackseal as that is what the router is for, you only want to widen the crack at the top to give the material a sudface to bond to, not remove the pavement surface.

Looked at the current Cimline model. They are all basically the same. An engine to run hydraulic and provide a way to charge the battery. They are all using the Beckett burners that you can find parts anywhere. The engines get a little tough to source all the parts for. If it is an Isuzu, there were something like 6 or 8 diffrent radiators they used. Muffler break like dead twigs. If it has a heated hose it will have two alternators and a very costly bill should the hose get destroyed, like $2,000 plus cost. The biggest wear item is the material pump. If the current owner will allow you to pull the rear cover and see wether the bushings are round or egg shaped. If they aren`t round, it will need a pump real quick. Good luck.

Still didn`t jump in with both feet eh ? It is sounding like you need a machine that somebody can support when you need parts. Is there such a thing down there as a local dealer ? What are their reasons for not wanting a full sized machine ? I think Cimline and Crafco are the only two that offer a router. Be aware the Cimline can`t use the larger diameter cutter wheel. Crafco`s heat lance works OK, it`s kind oof hard to screw up a big blow torch. It does use a lot of propane don`t forget. Don`t forget a portable air compressor to clean the cracks before sealing them. If you are in need of heating up a larger portion of pavement at one time, we had one of those infra red heaters. It had a ceramic pad on the bottom and propane tanks on top. It glowed red like a Coleman lantern and it sure puts out a LOT of heat in a big hurry. Hope any of this helps.

lol ...

haven't been game enough to buy one yet
i just added a ' flocon ' tandem truck , a small tipper and another attachment to my business along with 3 other guys
the crack sealing business seems to be a funny business over here , the big guys that cover all of Australia , won't even talk to you ,
regarding local dealers , there is only 1 that i have found so far , that sells the cimline unit , and all they are is salesmen , that dont know much , cant help with the service side of things , just told me to look it up on the net to find out anymore information
the small 125 gallon trailer unit is just under 100k , not real keen to spend that sort of money on a maybe

really keen to get into the crack sealing as i think that there is a good local market for it here and yet the local councils are being held to ransom by these other contractors that will only come up this way once a year for about 4-6 weeks and only if there is 50000 lineal meters of work , being their minimum .

just a large pain in the butt now knowing ... lol

Not just hard to find support over there, I live 45 minutes away from them and it was a nightmare toget service from them in town. The latedt models we had were bought new and they were total junk. They changed supplier n their hydraulic components and there was no keeping the hydraulics cool. Hot enugh to burn the decal on the tank at the oil level. The mixer auger drive motors are sealed to the tank and when the seal gets rock hard, it will drain the hydraulic tank dry with out a drop of oil on the ground. They are no better or worse than anything else out there. It`s still just a component machine as ar as hydraulic system parts, you can source out the pumps, motors just about anywhere. The material pump is supplied to them by BearCat pumps. Another son of the original founder, the other son runs the mfg. part of the busines.
Check out their web site, www.bearcatmanufacturing.com.

Have you looked at the line of crack sealer machines made by Sealmaster. A buddy of mine is one of the largest crack sealer/sealcoating contractors in the Dallas area. He uses Sealmaster equipment and sealer products for almost his entire scope of operations. I am not sure if they are available in your part of the world though.
