T250 Problems?

Hi guys, newbie to the forum, but I've searched and read several articles on here already and appreciate the wealth of knowledge out there.

Couple of questions with my T250 which I've owned for 2yrs now, with very little trouble, but seems like things aren't right.

1) Under heavy load (pushing a big load and/or lifting at the same time), and the engine will bog to the point it will stall if I keep pushing things. Happens consistently, like the engine is low on power. No smoke tells me the turbo must be working. I have diesel experience, but limited. My assumption is I can adjust the pump for more power, but don't know which plug to remove, etc.

2) Hydraulic power seems low. I can lift heavy items, but seems like the valve kicks in early, or not enough flow. Filters have all been replaced except for the drive motor return side filters (bronze filters). I would assume this machine would have enough power to lift something very heavy and the machine would tilt forward before hydraulics would run out. If I'm lifting something heavy, and try to tilt at the same time, it will lower, instead.

Thoughts?

Stalling sounds like a relief valve problem possibly. As far as lifting goes, a track machine will probably bypass before it "tips forward". Im not sure on technical info but I'm guessing rated capacity of that machine is around 2500 lbs.

Has it always done this? you don't mention any numbers...the t250 should lift 2500 lbs. easy and it will tip at 7000+

turning up the engine power will only result in hurting something else remember it is only an 80 horse machine :)

cycle times are usually a quick and dirty way of telling pump output...

It's my first skid steer, so I've become a lot more familiar with it over the last 2yrs. Not sure if it always did this but I definitely have the feeling it should lift more and have more grunt before bogging down.

I don't have actual numbers (I only use it at home), but the hydraulics definitely give up before it wants to tip. For example, I moved a rock this weekend that it would lift, but not with ease, and carried it around the yard without tipping. Wanted to tip on a decline, and very light on the back end, but if I tried to lift the forks and tilt at the same time, it wouldn't do both, or would lower as I was inputting a tilt and a lift at the same time.

It feels like there are 2 problems. Like I have a hydraulic problem (flow and pressure), and the unit is underpowered. I don't have a tach on it, so don't know what rpm it's pulling. The history before I bought it is unknown but it was a formal rental, although appears to be well maintained. I do hear some hydraulic whine, as well, and changing the fluid has not changed that. When it's fully warm that seems to be much less.

My feeling is if I had more rpm and/or power, it would also have more grunt with the hydraulics. The engine doesn't bog down when lifting, etc., but does bog down when you're pushing a large pile.

I agree, in my experience with 2 T250's is they will bypass before it tips if you are stationary. A T250 will lift and carry a 4x4 concrete knock-out inlet box but on uneven ground it can tip while moving but that's different dynamics. The machine doesn't like it but it will lift it.

Northmanxx, when you say it stalls digging in a heavy pile or pushing a big load, mine do that as well. If you push it hard enough it will stall out and even kill the engine. Without operating the machine it's hard to give a diagnosis.

Well that does answer my questions, then. Thank you !

Is there any way to get a little more power out of this machine?

I really appreciate the feedback. It seems to run great, but has a few shortcomings.
