Sicard Go onto You Tube and type in "1965 Hayes pulling a windmill tower" and it will come up . It was this outfit that sent her to the auction over in Denver after they finished with her When new she went to Franklin River Division as unit # H194 She was part of a 7 truck order from Hayes . When she was surplused by M&B, Jamie Bracht bought her and took her to Russ Jacksons shop on Falls Road and they did a rebuild on her. When politics dictated that it was time to downsize Jamie took all his lowbeds and tractors to the R/B auction in Vancouver. She was sold to an American dealer and sat down in Portland Ore for some years till the windmill outfit bought her

I am new to the Forum, but I enjoy the information and stories from everyone. When I used to live on the island, at Royston, in the late 80's, I remember there being 2-3 Hayes HD's driving in the area. They were red and white logging trucks. No idea as to who owned them, any idea who or where they got to?

camptramp The Crown Z HDX pulling the pup in pic 1354 I think might have been Ian Brown. The chrome "GMC" on the brushguard was kind of his trademark He also had it on his new P16 "Supertruck" that went to Nitnat

diamondtguy Yes it is well worth the watch. She is a WHD though not the HDX. She looks like an HDX with the fender configuration that Jamie Bracht put on her when he rebuilt her back in the early 90's "WHD"--Wide Heavy Duty" means she has a 10 3/4 inch frame X 40 inches wide (Flex Frame) rather than the standard 34 in wide frame. HDX Heavy Duty Extra Heavy Frame means Rigid Frame 34 inches wide Then the WHDX People think these are the biggest trucks Hayes built however they are the same size as an HDX. The difference is the frame rails are 40 inches wide. If you parked two Hayes trucks beside each other an HDX and a WHDX you would be hard pressed to tell the difference in them. The 6 BIG -WHDX trucks that were built and were shipped overseas were in fact WHDX's and the reason was they were equipped with the Clark CL 16820 Trans and they needed the width in the frame to install them. Any Hayes with the "W" designation meant it had a 40 inch wide frame

Thanks for the explanation! I remember seeing a oil field truck called an HDX SOW in a Ritchie Bros flyer when I was a kid. I think it had twinsteer in the front and definitely was much longer than normal. Was that a factory build or somebodies custom job?

RCP57 Never heard of an HDX SOW. I'm thinking maybe a custom job. I did however hear of a Pacific PIG. We were over at the factory visiting George Gray one time and he told us about a delegation of Chinese businessmen that were touring the Pacific factory looking at purchasing a few big off highway trucks. It seems they forgot the model they wanted but one of them remembered seeing this little sign on the side of one of these trucks and it said Pacific with the little chrome P16 sign under it-- only they thought it said PIG so they went ahead and ordered 2 Pacific PIG's. The order was given to George to figure out!!! He phoned and got it all straight but he said it was VERY FUNNY!

Ray was fast but always one step ahead in his thought. he moved onto a new Pacific 40-89.Not sure of exact details but he was going from cab to the deck to throw air line over and slipped and broke his neck.Did not drive after that and left us 2-3 yrs ago

I am very fond of Hayes trucks. I would like to restore one at some point. Until then I like to build models, are there any Hayes HD or HDX models available? There's not many trucks like that around here in Logan Lake, BC.

Hi Sicard. I'm in Victoria and am a model builder as well. Have a look on Ebay, there 's been a fellow trying sell a HD kit that was availible years ago. He keeps relisting it. Send me a PM and I'll send you a link. Thanks Doug.
