I'm trying to stay away from fans mainly because they can turn into a major hazard for the wearer if the helmet is hit while being worn. A motor with blades attached to it right next to the head could turn ugly very quickly...
Hardhats right now are so hot because (i know you guys already know this all too well) they do such a great job of trapping in air, a small cooling element and an open design should be able to keep the head cool.

These cool bands can keep someone cool for 24 hrs according to the website, seems to be wishful thinking, but it should work for at least a workday.

Man, if I were able to do this project over I probably would've made a helmet specific to one type of job that uses hardhats. And thank you everybody for being so helpful and open with me, not everyone has been as lucky as me with finding a friendly online presence.

Styling, I voted #2,
But ;-) I'd never purchase a mesh hard hat. For what I do, (indoors, ceilings, new and old construction) it doubles as a dust & small debris deflector, dripping water pipe avoider. Speaking of #2, it also seems to incorporate a nice neck rain deflector, good for those trips out to the van without the water draining behind your collar.

I second that qball. best hard hat ive ever had, simple and safe.

P I S S Pots are my favorite, too!! MSA even makes them in white (if you think the brown one makes your head too hot). I'm just glad that I just have to wear it to the rig, then I turn on either the air or the heat!!

I wear a hardhat everyday, required on all job sites around here, especially mines. I prefer just the front bill, have never owned and not many around here use full bills around. The light on the front is essential, I work afternoons, so most of my shift is in the dark, and a light on your hat is a plus. If you forget your flashlight in the car or job trailer an easy accessible head light is nice. Must turn on and off, and preferably battery powered whether it be chargable batteries or disposable. The second best feature would be some sort of reflective measures on it, currently all of our workers(well not all, some don't care) piece DOT tape around the helmet ~1" pieces around the helmet as well a piece right on the top. I would like something that is part of the helmet that will cover the ears in the winter, and also the back of the neck/hair to keep some what clean from dust.

Here's one with ANSI approved eye protection, although I'm not sure how many guys would want to wear one on a construction site, they were designed for arborists.

The warehouse is just finished setting racks at most all the workers are wearing that type of hat...well minus the gadgets

...............

The reflective tape ... we had a job that it was either tape or a vest...
6 square inches of tape.... or a vest... I opted for the vest... and the tape...

One of my sons works on a golf course, they need a helmet with rear and side protection as well, to fend off golf balls
