Elevator on Terex S7

This fall I changed most of the filters and oils on the S7 that I purchased. My father in law who is an old contractor and ran TS 14 for a few years said it missed at idle but sounded great while working. I put a total of 3 - 4 hours on machine. I am not good but I have figured out a few things not to do.

The previous owner took the elevator off because the engine seized. I plan to pick up the assembly this winter or spring. I have the full elevator with flighting and chains, the two gearboxes (one angle and one was mounted to end of pup engine (2-71).

I would like to remount elevator and drive it with hydraulic pump and motor. I did a little research and found that the JD 762 scrapers used "Sundstrand" pumps and motors. Also found a thread that said IHC combines used "Sundstrand" drive components.

Just looking for ideas or suggestions as to how to begin this project. Any help would be appreciated. I am located in Calgary Alberta Canada.

I believe most of the early self loading scrapers (including Euclid/Terex) had bowls and elevators made by a company called Hancock. Except for Cat, the J619 and J621 Cat self-loaders had elevators made by Johnson, before Cat started making their own. I don't know about 762 JDs I think they're newer, correct? Just thinking maybe Hancock elevator parts would interchange better? Just a suggestion, hope it helps. :drinkup

Hancock was bought by Clark back in the 60's. They made Clark scrapers and terex scrapers. Clark self loaders used Sunstrand drive motors. I may have some tech info on the hydraulics.

This S7 did have a separate engine (Detroit 2-71) that powered only the elevator through two right angle drives and shafts. The bowl and elevator was built by Hancock. The engine is seized and badly damaged. I do have both angle drives and and shafts.

I put in question about the JD 762 because they are more plentiful in this area so easier to find parts and their elevators were driven using hydraulic pump and motor.

Any info on the hydraulics would be of help. I also wondered if the onboard hydraulics could power the elevator since they ony operate lift cylinders while loading.

The sundstrand pump was popular, also found on Clark/Michigan elevating scrapers aswell as road mixers

When I was searching for a 9-11yd3 scraper I inspected an S7 up at Bundaberg Qld. The tractor was all reco'd, A/c cab but the seat was just a big sponge cushion ontop of a piece of 6" bore casing pipe (definately a hard ride)
The elevators were run by twin cylinder GM which kind of put me off. Mainly because of a second engines' air intake that would be in the extreme dust area (out here in Australia dust is what we have plenty of)

On the reinstatement of the elevator system, inspect your flytes for cracks, where the mounting plates are welded to the paddle section as they can fatigue that area. Also while looking around there, check where the chains rub on the flyte & see if there is wear. My 101F flytes were just about worn through so I built up that area with "iron powder" rods (stick welder)

Hope you find a hydraulic specialist to give you that advice required on updating to hydraulic powered elevators.

I have just read your article on your s7 I have a Euclid s7 Hancock that has had the elevators converted to heavy duty td6 crawler chains with heavier slats and a modified angle drive at the top of the elevator chain to drive the chains.
We still have the 2 cylinder GM motor to drive the elevators.

if you still have unit the actual machine is a hancock 12E2E with a Euclid 3or 4uot tractor I am interested in any elevator parts you may want to part with

well i have just a open bole s7. but think you find that your going to need the extra motor to run the chains as that will take a lot of hyd power. i do be leave the elevator bole was bigger than a open bole too. what are you plan's for it? dose it have a job to do what type of dirt are you moving? pic 's are always nice

Those S-7's with the Hancock bowl were 11 Yards heaped, the S-7 open bowl was rated at 7 yards struck and 11 yards heaped.
The elevating machines with the 2-71 elevator engine were the way to go, the 4-71 tractor engine did not have much spare HP to run an elevator chain, but the little 2-71 had plenty of power to load it fast.
