Hello. I just joined up here. My first piece of equipment i ran was an older kobelco excavator with a 10 ton removable counterweight. My dad worked at a sand and gravel pit and ran this machine and let me sit on his lap when i was little and dig holes in the sand. Then i later bailed out bottom sand from the pond there. I have been trying to find any pics or info on this machine and cannot find anything. I do not remember a model number ???LC, year 1990 maybe?? 10 ton hydraulic removeable counter weight, orange in color, mitsubishi engine, i remember it to be a pretty big machine. My dad could pull out stuck loaded tri axles with just swing motor. Any info on this machine would be nice as it is the main reason i joined up here. thanks.

First Piece of equipment was an old John Deere 350 dozer, we sold it a few years later and bought a 450b dozer (she had a little more power), The first truck I ever drove was a 70's Mack R600 dump truck that ol' truck will always be with me!

First owned

D6C, in 1977 -will never forget the serial no 10K10542. Would love to know where it is now (like the first girl friend) :tong. It was a better balanced logging dozer than the D6D that I prematurely 'upgraded' to. :(

1st machine was a 2U CAT D8 bought if for $3850 didnt know a thing about equipment at the time and figured it was a CAT it had to be good(Yeah Right). Ran a total of 8 hours and found out the trans was gone the ring and pinion was almost gone and the dry clutch was coming apart. I sat on that machine for 10 years and when the price of scrap hit $350 a ton it went to the foundry at a very nice profit I might add. I too still remember the serial number of that machine and it has a special place in my heart.

That 1st machine, an RD 8 cable blade, I didn't even know how to start it. It was running when I got to the job and the boss told the operator to teach me how to run it. We were at a landfill site in Emeryville, CA. As soon as the boss left, the operator got in his pick up and went home. I figured out the forward and reverse and was pushing rocks building a dike in the bay. Pushed a row of rocks and concrete the blade went up and loosened the cable and it came down with a bang. Broke the cable in the back where it goes into the winch. Didn't know what to do. An older colored driver came next and handed me a claw hammer and cresent wrench, said you gotta figure out how to cut the cable and rethread it. I was only 21 didn't have any knowledge of this machine but by the time he came back with another load I had figured out what to do and was pushing rock.

The first piece of equipment for me was a Valpadan walk behind rotary hoe, it had a bolt on attachment system so we had other attachments including a 3' mower, 4' sicklebar mower, a rotary hoe, Dad made a big trailer, roller, my own design of a three tyne ripper and a grader blade. I has a three speed gearbox, plus diff lock and the rest. For 8 hp was a very good little machine, in the 27 years we have owned it i hate to think how many hours it has done. Every weekend when i was 8 i used to mow 2 acres of grass with the mower, and did rotary hoeing, grading the driveway plus many other things. Was the best education i can say i had.

Now owning/running three mid size tractors and equipment, plus machinery operator for a farmer...

At age 15 I got tired of grubbing fence rows on our farm by hand and found myself a John Deere 440 dozer......... thats when my real education begain!

I had that dozer for 5 years and had every bolt in it out at some time or the other. It grubbed miles of fence row on our farm and every farm in the area.

I miss that screaming little 2-53 engine :)

First piece of equipment was a Bomag sheeps foot compactor, couldn't even begin to tell you the year. After a year of that and the water-truck, I got promoted to a Cat 938B loader, then first "digger" was a Cat 416B rubber tire. First excavator was a Komatsu 200PC.

My first purchase was a case 550lt just picked it up off CL. Still waiting to move it.
Unless you go back to 10 yrs old, I had a riding mower I used to mow lawns in the neighborhood.

I was on farm equipment younger than that but it wasn't Mine.:D
