Here's and old 1960's era SJ4-RT yarder-loader rusting near Haines Alaska. What a beast she must have been to run. I asked the owner if he would sell at and he said 'absolutely not', almost offended. He is in his late 90's, lol. I guess he may log with it again soon......

Great set as always.I bet there are not many readers on here, who have heard of Sedro Wooley!
know it well, my first set of drums was a skid mount set of BU15's we stole cedar with. when we went legal we had a set of BU30's and then we went big time with a set of bu80,s (boy we were loggin then!!!) of course when we went pro we bought an old SJ4RT with a tommy moore fairlead, a set of buttriggin and a christy carriage. unfortunatly we ran out of money and couldn't afford loading grapples, but had an old set of tongs that worked just fine. i'll see if i can find some photos of the old girl and scan them in. i think i may evan have one of the old girl on her side (she was just resting after a hard pull on an old fir log):drinkup

Here's a neat old advertisement from the late 1950's regarding the SJ Series machines you mentioned. I collect this stuff and have alot of old Skagit items around-- hats, mugs, belt buckles, even a pocket-knife. I'll post some pics of all that crap here at some point later......for now I'll do ads ans brochures, etc.

Here's an old brochure for the SJ4-RT that was given to me years ago. It's dirty, a mess, and was when I got it, but it is very neat and lots of details.

Here's a Sept 2009 pic taken here in Alaska of one of these creatures, alive and well. There are quite a few of them around in the weeds yet.

SJ2's and SJ3's were popular also, and still are with some of the thinning contractors. Here are some SJ2 pics for your enjoyment. Thes machines have straight yarding booms, but they came manydifferent ways.

1963 Magazine Ad.

'8 Skagit BU80 Yarders for Portable Spars at Vancouver Island Operations'. Outfit was MacMillan, Bloedel, & Powell River, Ltd. Very cool indeed.

As you can cearly see, only the hoists were Skagit. The trucks shown are military surplus (M26's?), and the towers/guyline drums are Madills.

Clipping from a 1961 magazine shows a tank-mounted Skagit, designed to work with a wooden spar tree. Cool pic, with operator, or 'donkey puncher'.

Magazine Ad, 1967. What a neat shot, I had to crop and enlarge for a better look at that Skagit slackline machine- with 110' tower and on a tank! Boy, I'll bet this one would pull! Looks like maybe a MacMillan Bloedell operation.

Oh- I forgot to mention that that's also a Skagit machine loding the truck- an SJ7 it looks like. What a great shot with the HDX Hayes truck on the landing!
