I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to keep mice out of your equipment. I live in the woods and if I have a peice of equipment or even a truck sit for about a week there seems to be some new tenants.

I am a little worried because they like to chew up things, **** and poop (stinky) and I got some pretty new equipment.

Will Moth balls work best? If so should I just spread them around in the equipment. Does anyone else have any other suggestions to keep them out?

With winter coming they are on the scurry looking for a hide out!

When I first heard about this, I thought it was a scam. We have a very clean house and we live in the country, a few years ago I started hearing mice under the house (at night, when it was quite) I tried everything except cats and snakes (dont like them) Then I saw this advertisement on TV. Its a devise you plug into the wall outlet and it sends a signal out, that mice dont like. Within 3 days I never heard, or saw any signs of mice. I know you dont have 110v outlets in your equipment, but you run a drop cord and just plug this thing into it. Im not home right now, to get the info/name I also found them on Goggle, type in mice. I think I bought 3 of them for $65, they are worth more than that for one of them. This is the only thing I have ever heard of that really works
Good Luck

LoL Wolf, your in Caleeeforneeuh. The enviro wacko's there would probably rather you tear your house down as opposed to infringing upon the sacred rights of the skunks under your deck. Guess I ain't much help, huh? :D

the environmental whackos wouldn't let me come near the house with a wrecking machine---but I would sure love to, and catch a few of the skunks under my tracks in the process. LOL.

maybe i could just push a few big trees over on top of the skunks.

I use a bait to control rodents in my shed. It comes in a solid compressed block, not like the little pellets. You could just lay a cube of it in the floor and it will just sit there until one of the little critters comes along and makes it disappear. Then you know you've fed one. ;)

I have to be careful with poisons. I have a yellow lab that loves to sniff out critters and will eat anything that is even remotely eatable.

After having my GMC 7000 since 84 the last 2 years I get mice:eek: Guess I could get a trap but I can't kill him:Banghead Tore up all the paper towels in the truck and made a nest in the defroster vents. Turn on the defroster and confetti all over me. Hope he don't eat the wires. One Chevy dealer here paved a new lot and mice were eating the electrics on the new cars. They hired a exterminator:guns

I'll try some moth balls but I hated them as a kid!:spaz:cussing:throwup

They are possibly bad for your health if they carry that hunta virus (sp?) Few on Long Island died from it when the leave droppings.

Just get some old time wooden mouse traps. Usually less than a dollar a piece.
Use peanut butter for bait. They cant resist PB. If they are anywhere close they will come to the PB.

It is a regular here every fall for the critters to move in. A few day of trapping will move them out via the trash can.

Don't give them a bed and breakfast.

Mice smell food, even what's left on wrappers. Be sure your cab is spotless and they won't have as much insentive to invade. They also make nests with any garbage they can find- rags, paper towels, magazines etc.

We've tried everything but nothing is a cure all for that problem, moth balls work sometimes, traps others, we even put antifreeze out in containers for them to drink and that works a little, as far as skunks are concerned, feed them antifreeze, it smells sweet and they'll drink it or else use soda pop mixed with fly bait usually golden malerin and they won't even make it back under your porch, but don't let cats or dogs near it or they'll be pushing up daisies too. The other thing skunks like table scraps and mix some gopher poison in with that, if that does'nt work resort to lead poisoning and stay up wind. For the mouse problem if all else fails bring in some rats, mice don't stay long where theres rats around. Better yet employ them give them a job title with responsibility and you'll never see them again or ever know they were there. Same goes for the skunk, hire them and give them room and board under your porch and they'll protest the living conditions and quit and move out.

Mice, rats and cotton tails are my problem. with work slow the equipment has been sitting around the shop available for varmints to chew on. Been feeding the little blue pellets but I think they get imune to it. I have a good air rifle in my PU for the rabbits but they hear me drive up and hide. They can really chew up wiring, had a $400 laser cable chewed nearly in half.

And old cowboy just told me Irish Spring bar soap is the ticket, for packrats. If you could trade packrats for mice you'd take the mice every time!! I'm going to give it a try.
