instead of running down a thread I figured I would start a new one.

we have had such good weather here we have some 67" tall beans with 50-60 pods.....NO FERTILIZER either I would suppose they are going to produce 60+bushell easy. I have contracted a bunch at $9.80 and some at $8.40 (there's always a but) But, we have lost about 5% of our Beans due to SDS (sudden death syndrom). i attached a pic, but they have bushed out alot since the pic was taken 3 weeks ago

But.....on the same token, it's been so wet and such a fly year we have had a bunch of PinkEye in the cattle. we had to get the vet out today and run about 20 of the worst ones through, he had to sew the eyes shut and give 'em an eye ball shot, even though it has to hurt like hell I am sure they are a little more comfortable. we had 3-4 calves that was completely blind. but they'll be fine......i hope

Any Cattlemen out there? and has PinkEye been a problem around you all?

I blame alot of our problems on the amount of rain and cool weather we have been having but I dunno

Did you ever get that rotary hoe I asked you about?

Here is what our beans looked like after ther hail storm we got a month ago.

The ins said they are a 43% crop

you always got youre mind on hoe's.....lol

a few guy's will harrow a feild if they dont have a rotary hoe. but not alot of people have rotary hoes around here anymore, i think with planted crops they may not be as necesarry.

We are in negotiations with the insurance now, looks like they will check again at harvest.

They have recovered a fair amount since that picture.

what breed cattle? hereford are bad about it in the summer time. Things to consider are keeping the pasture clipped reasonably short(especially in the spring!) also insecticide ear tags such as warrior, y-tex, or CyLence can help considerably. Long lasting topical pour-on work too. the tags can be found here http://www.qcsupply.com/qcsupply/br...uctId=141111&categoryId=12162&fromPage=search. Proper vitamin supplement can go a long way to keeping a healthy herd. I'm a undergrad @ virginia tech in the dairy science program and also work @ the vet school so we see this frequently.

we work cattle in the spring, at that time we put in the fly tag's and about every 30 day's or so i Ivermectin them we keep mineral out for them as well, looking back we should have blended some oromiacin(sp?) with the loose mineral but didnt. probably keep a better eye (no pun inteded lol) on them from now on, it has been a HORRIBLE year for pinkeye, i think it's been so wet that it's been a good fly year. I shot them today with something the vet give me -cant think of the name right now but i'll get it for you- and hopefully it'll help clear it up. been running cattle along time and it seems that if you give thema shot it clears up in ten days or if you dont give them a shot it clears up in 240hours lol. either way i still work them, a blind calve dont bring much at the sale,......also my $4k bull aint worth a **** if he's blind either

This hasnt been a good year for beans around here. If we get an early frost most of them will be toast in this part of the world. We went back to conventionals so mabey will get a premium to help make up for what we lost on yeild.

Im in charge of our cattle, but scince we fall calve pink eye wasnt that big of an issue. Flys were bad and most of the people around here that spring calve had a lot of eye problems.

When we used to have herefords, it seemed like we were always battling pinkeye. We switched to beefmasters about 20 years ago, and have not had much since unless we have a heavy broomweed crop come up.

Herefords will have that problem relentlessly unless closely managed.
