Hi there,
It has been a busy winter for me. As some of you may recall I launched the website in the end of 2008. It was ok, but hard for dialup people to use and wasn't overly attractive. Well, that is no longer the case. I have come up with something that I think each and everyone of you will enjoy and hopefully visit a few times throughout the year.
I have worked very very hard to make the site dialup friendly. From the tests I've ran on 47.7kbps internet, it loads well and from my sample market of dial up users say it from around the United States and Canada it loads better than many sites on the internet. I was quite pleased to hear about it. Even the photoblog, which have many photos, (clickable thumbnails) loads faster than the users can read the text and look at the photos the text describes. A page with over 100 photos loaded in under 7 minutes on 29.9kbps internet. I remind you, the photos are clickable thumbnails. They are small, all less than 15kb. Should you want to see the larger version, they blow up to 800*600 and never more than 100kb. There is nothing I can do about the youtube videos. Sorry dialup crowd. I'm really trying to include you.
The page will fully load on any screen larger than 800*600 pixels without any side scrolling. This was another feature I was sure to include as I know there are several old computers still out there surfing the web.
I am not a web designer, I don't really have any experience, but I am extremely happy with the way this turned out. I built it from the ground up and it came out looking almost exactly the way I saw it in my head when I dreamed up this idea.
I hope you will like it. Please tell me what you think about it, or if you spot any problems with the site. All the link work. The About us and Contact us pages are not done and won't be for a while. I need to do some thinking for those. The photo blog is complete from January 1st of 2008 to present.
On the homepage, there is an embedded youtube player. I promise you, it will NOT start playing, unless YOU click on it. So dialup people, do not fear. The player only loads after the entire home page has fully loaded. If you don't want to watch it, ignore it. Navigate to the photoblog using the toolbar at the top.
