What size dirt pans do yall pull with your tractors and how big are the tractors. How big of a pan can I pull with a 165hp duel wheel 2wd tractor. Thanks.

Friend of mine in the bootheel of Missouri pulls a single 12 yard scraper with a 2wd 4760 Deere.

That is a question with a lot of options. Gonnna depend a lot on what your trying to do. I run JD 9520's w dual 18 yd ejectors but sometimes pull 3 scrapers. I have done alot of Lazer leveling for soil conservation and 3 pans are easy to pull in big feilds. The other thing is how much cut you have, distance, soil conditions,etc. If you are doing ruogh in work your able to install teeth in the middle of your pan and then the horsepower needed is reduced greatly. The key to efective pan work is speed and shallow cut. Give us some more details of your work and i will help with more details

We've got a CAT70 that's been converted to hydraulic and pull it with a JD9400 (425hp) 4WD.

Our land is a clay-loam soil that's only about 6-8 inches deep, then it's heavy, damp clay below that. It doesn't take too deep of a cut to get the ol' girl spinning!

7 to 8 yd would be plenty.

Lots of variables. What type of soil are you cutting to move? How firm is he ground where you will travel? A wagon type pan with wheels front and rear, or just rear tires? Width of cut? But a 7 or 8 yard sounds about right.

Had a chance to use a 4440 Deere (130 HP ) and Cat 40 pull scraper on a job . The two made a good combination . Tractor had no trouble pulling the pan yet would spin the tires when it needed to . I also like the drawbar & dolly style set up . Allows for tight turns even with the duels on the tractor .


Wasn't using it in the best of conditions . We needed dirt to fill for a new building site and all they had handy was a spoil pile that was borderline mud when we broke in to it . Jumped on top with the tracked skid loader & knocked it down a bit then hopped in the 4440 and away we went .

My father pulls a 12 yard Holcomb drawbar mount not dolly with a 7130 Magnum about 190 hp works fine but it is a mfwd tractor! Like has been said depends what type of pull you want dolly or drawbar! Drawbar you have to change your drawbar to be able to hook up to scraper the plus is it puts more weight on tractor for better traction but also puts extra strain on tractor! we pull 33yd scrapers with 9630 or 9560R JD! Like has been said depends what you are wanting to do with it. Jerry

We have 2 scrapers the one is capable of going behind the other but we haven't had long enough hauls to justify hooking them in tandem so yes we just pull singles for now! Jerry

I pull a older 5 yard dump style scraper behind a JD 4440 usually have the duals on but not always works great. If I could afford a 8 or 9 nine yard I would have that . I ran mind a lot for me this fall after harvest and put 50 hours on the tractor wish I would have had a bigger on then. A normal year three of four days of running in the fall usually get things fixed back up. I wouldn't want to be with out a scraper. I started out with a 2.5 yard old soil mover behind a JD 4020 moved a lot of dirt with that set up.

The JD 4440 & Cat # 40 pull pan I used on a site made a pretty good combination . Seemed like the tractor was matched pretty well with the pan .
Only way I could see to improve is put a Minneapolis - Moline on the pan .
