Think you did pretty well at $60K all in back home.
Considering a new national boom truck is $650-750,000, depending on if you put a pete/Freightliner/kw/int/mack under it and how you option it out. That's a lot of $. And I can't charge any more per hour for the brand new one.

So for me, I can own 4-5 used ones, for the price of one new one. And go three different places on Monday. And have the ability to leave a crane at a job a extra day if they need it.

But I also then need a shop and yard and mechanic to keep everything going, which isn't free either.

With two yards now , I'm hoping to keep things a little more split, to save some moving equipment.

CO, sorry to hear about your parents. Been there, done that, still doing that, still carry scars.

My mom was moved from Assisted Living to skilled nursing last year, against her wishes. My son was able to reach her with "Grandma, you need to be here before you have to be here".

There is a couple in the facility that only she needs skilled, but her husband moved up with her to help keep her world together.

If your sister is local and capable, let her make the call, then she can be the one to get the phone calls in the middle of the night "your mom has fallen and she is on her way to the emergency room".

It's real easy to get ptsd every time the phone rings when you are the contact person.

Feel free to contact me to vent frustrations if needed.

I thought I was done for. I saw 112 degrees on the rental car thermometer at the worst. We unloaded about 3:00 in the afternoon.

I did a few things to the crane, to be ready for the next truck. I went back to the motel room, laid on the bed and thought " my wife has no idea where I am, I'm going to have a heart attack right here and they won't find me until they smell me" . I got way overheated, feet/ leg cramps, the whole mess.

I took a cold shower and forced a bunch of water down the hatch, but it was touch and go for a little while. :)

I talked with my local trucker who was bringing it to Missouri, they were making a drop in Phoenix, and were going to be delayed minimum one or two days. He had multiple trucks there, so they said they could send two guys over there and get it loaded.

Didn't have to tell me twice, I popped in the rental minivan and headed for LA. It was 100 degrees at 9:30 in the morning. It's 4 hours to LA, and the temperature dropped 10 degrees every hour West that I drove. It was 75 degrees at the airport, which is right on the Pacific.
Caught a late flight la to Dallas, and the last flight from there to Springfield.

Last night trucking outfit called called, can't get a permit for Arizona, it's too heavy.

Got lucky, and truck drivers and a tow truck got 5,000 lbs of counterweight, 1,000 lbs of block and spreader bar dismounted and thrown on the other truck. Arizona permit came through this morning, and it's headed this way.

Sitting by herself in the flying J, my hot rental minivan ( it was actually a great ride), and the local ehrenburg Arizona crane rental rig. I didn't have him come swap weights out.

Shouldn't be too bad. When the truckers came over to load, one guy came earlier, and the second guy had brought his truck and trailer, to help load.
So- bam- the fall off counterweight slid right on his truck and it's all headed this way. $1,000 for the tow truck, and I'll work it out about the second load.

The crane was 2,000 lbs heavier than factory specs, which is what I gave them for a weight. So it was 2,000 heavy, from what I told them. But turns out Arizona wouldn't accept their trailer configuration (every other state would), and they wouldn't have been legal at spec weight/what I gave them. They needed to be 3,000 lbs under the weight I gave them for a Arizona permit.

So 2,000 lbs is on me, and 3,000 is on them. Doesn't really matter, it's too heavy. I've got a good relationship with these guys, and we'll work out whatever is fair. I'm not to worried about it. They could have got a permit for the actual weight, but it would take two weeks to get that, and the trucks were already there. Load it up and get it home, we'll figure out the $ later.

There's a lot of guys that would throw a fit, and they are the guys who "I can't find anyone who will haul for me". No **** - no one will haul for you, because you expect them to do it for nothing " it's a haul back so the trucker should do it for free". What comes around goes around.

I understand that things don't always go according to plan, and everyone has to make money, so I try to figure something out. Everyone has to eat, and I don't need steak every day, and expect everyone else to eat ramen.

In other news - turntable bearing is out of the liebherr, and the guys I talked to last fall about building me one, I think got bought out, or are no longer in business. So I need to get on the phone and get someone to building one, or rebuilding this one.

Setting units today. Truck driver was early, threw a fit at the HVAC guys after he was there 5 minutes, that he was starting a back charge for unloading time, even though he was a hour early.

So we got him unloaded, he flew into the truck in a rage, and promptly drove out the gate he was told not to. Got stuck, HVAC guys wouldn't have anything to do with him. General contractor pulled him out. He promptly drove into a plumbers ditch, and drove over their PVC risers, breaking two of them off.

And is stuck again. Now the plumbers are pissed off too, general contractor is taking pictures of everything, no more talking about back charges for unloading, now we're talking digging back up all the buried lines, and damages.

Set a billboard torsion tube this morning.

And just for everyone's education, the scenic event in Blythe California/ehrenburg Arizona is a bunch of ancient stick figures outlined in the desert. No one knows who made them, when they did it, or why. I know that they sweated their asses off making it.

The one animal looks like a kindergarten drawing of mine. They aren't sure what animal it depicts. But it's probably not a horse, because they don't think the Spanish were here yet. If you drive yourself out there, it's a fence and desert, so the real view is from Google Earth, a plane or a drone. Save yourself the drive.

The funniest was the six times it took the driver to hook the chain on the bumper. The general superintendent was ready to tell him to call a tow truck after the hook fell off for the third time, but they got it done.

Sounds like the truck driver was a complete a-hole! Should deduct all the damages and towing from his invoice.

As for your parents maybe the facilty you looked at provides transportation or the city has special transportation for seniors. It doesn't sound like either of them should really be driving. Some assisted living facilities are really good with nurses on staff and Dr's readily available. My mom was in a place like that and a room had just opened up at another place that provided even more care but my mom took a downturn after falling and breaking her hip and ended up going into continuing care at a hospital. It was really nice just outside of Victoria on Vancouver Island. She had dementia but not full blown Alzheimers. She stopped eating solid food and they moved her to the "Garden Room" for her last few weeks. I was very glad I got to see her in time to talk to her when she was pretty coherent and remembering things. Felt like asking her if she wanted to try eating but knew the end was near. She passed away a few hours after I talked to her.

Which one is the driver?

I tell ya' there are way too many drivers on the road that shouldn't have a CDL and that guy is one of them.

Those 4" PVC pipes sticking out of the ground painted bright ******* green for a reason are very expensive when one runs over them.

CO you picked a rough week to try dry heat i live 2 hours east of blyth and it has been below 95 at night in 10 days

Arizona doesn't recognize a tridum axel group for 60000 only 57000 everyone here uses west coat style trailers with 16 tire groups after that you go to 9 axels and that's a little over kill for your crane
