Cat Haul Trucks with Bottom Dumps

are those down there right now? they are pretty good sized trucks, what are they using to load them?

Are they specially customized or CAT made them? The model is off highway trucks but I never saw this kind of machine before.
The are parked right now. The exact location is the NW corner of the 215 and Aliante Parkway, north side of town. It looks like they were loading them with an Hitachi EX1100 and possibly some larger wheel loaders.
From what I was told, the trucks all started out as standard trucks with the dump beds. The dealer made the conversion to the bottom dump trailers. All of them can still be converted back to a standard dump bed at any time.
A few years ago Las Vegas Paving had those wagons on a project in central Nevada where I saw them being loaded by a 710 Holland Loader; it was an impressive operation. I know that LVP owning those wagons has really helped them corner the market on long haul dirt jobs in southern Nevada. They always struggled against American Asphalt on many dirt jobs, unless it was long haul dirt, where those wagons gave them the edge.

how do the bottom dumps work? seems like it would put the pile right in the path of the tires unless they pull onto some kind of dumping station or something...
The on road bottom dumps I've seen in action all dumped on the move. Gotta have a big enough site to keep them moving but they worked pretty well.

how much increase in carrying capacity does it give have the trailer
Belly dumps usually add about double the regular dump box capacity.
Trailers for 35 ton trucks are usually 70 ton, 50 ton trucks run around 100 ton.
85 ton trucks have been seen with 120 to 150 ton, and 150 ton trucks get a 240 ton trailer. These are not quite double, but still a good increase, then if the conditions are right, and not much grade to overcome, they can pull doubles.
Some of the huge dirt jobs were done that way. Denver airport for one ran a fleet of 777 pulling 150 ton lead and 120 ton rear belly dumps. Same story at a large reservoir project in California. Wish I had some pics of that to share.

jtl; i am still trying to figure out how to put pictures on hear, every time i try nothing. i am so glad you guys are sharing these pictures, the bigger equip the better. i have a bunch to share when ever i figure this out. talking about denver, we fluw in to denver and rented a suv to drive north and it was in a snow storm but passed a CAT dealor on the left side going up and they hat a slew of scrapers on the front fence line and did not have a camera avaible and i was driving, tried to catch it on the way back but it was pitch black, wish i had that chance again. ts-24 frank

Hi Guys,
I have worked on several major dam projects and most contractors used belly dumps as well as end spills and scrapers. Euc, Cat and Dart were the most common tractors to pull the belly dumps. Athey was the most common brand of trailers.

ATCOEQUIP; thank you for youre responce, but i am just learning, please bare with me on this. i have verizon and have emailed pictures before. i 1-put the pix onto my computer desk top then i hit BROWSE and it puts the pix i clicked in to my email. now i have tried to follow the instructions on equipment forum and have gotten no where. i am a bit frustrated but love reading all that everyone is writing, and the pix are great. for anyone; does anyone out there know where the THOMIS M. DURKIN CO. originally out of PHILLY, PA. IS WORKING TODAY. they used to have a few large pieces in there yard in philly on grant ave. they have since closed but i hear they are working out of the area. thanks for youre help. ts-24 frank
