BCFP Renfrew Div. HC 2000 late October early November 1981 . #797 Skagit Yarder was yarding up hill , the "turn" hung up on a stump . A choker broke , causing a flash of flame to jump from broken cable to a bush pile . Most Fire Fighting Equipment had been taken back to "Camp" . I was driving the #222 Hayes . I picked up the "Long Tom" water tanker at Renfrew Camp , probably 2 1/2 - 3 hours to get to fire above Harris Creek Summit . By that time fire had burnt up hill side to road . The #797 a self propelled yarder was the first yarder , beyond it on the next setting was the #665 a low bed mounted yarder scan399.jpg scan400.jpg scan404.jpg scan405.jpg . The 2 log loaders had "walked " down the road into the clear . I dropped the "Long Tom" and as the fire was up to , but hadn't jumped the road . Went through the smoke and hooked on to the #665 yarder and got it safely out of harms way .

Funny you mention that, I have spent the last couple days on our 538 roadbuilder fighting fire, there are quite a few going in our area. There were a lot of slash piles lit after the big "atmospheric river" we had two weeks ago, then the wind turned around and has been blowing hard out of the east since and everything is as dry as it has been all summer. All these piles rekindled, kind of a mess one doesn't expect in November.

Old Mother Nature can throw us the odd curve ball every now and then .
