That's what I love about being a machinist and having a shop. I could have replicated the pin/boss probably in 4 hours.....for a price!:D

I actually get a lot of kind of repair, since I try keeping a largely obsolete fleet going. By the time I could find a decent used part, I could build another one, or long before. There are a couple of times I still haven't found the part I wanted, but made something that worked. Of course, I haven't looked as hard now, but just in case my version failed I wanted to know where to get one, or just get it to have and replace to stay original.

But under the circumstances, I'd say you went over and above for them. I hope it's appreciated.

Your customer needs to sign up for cat sis so you never need to deal with a parts man again. The time and suffering saved is priceless!
Oh wait. Have I already mentioned that.

To answer some questions
1. The cutting edge is within 1 inch of the mold board. It will get a replacement before it goes out.
2. The shims are gone.....somewhere on the job buried in the dirt. Ill have to reshim it. The ball and socket seem to have little wear so I am going to attempt to reuse it.
3. Of the 6 threaded holes, 1 was full of packed dirt, 2 bolts are broken off flush, and 3 are broken jagged. It looks like the bolts worked loose.....lost one completely and the rest gave up over time.
4. There is a grease point with a zert on the side of the socket. It was full of dirt and couldn't be seen.

I had 3 bolts extracted in 15 minutes....2 of these are going to take a lot more.

An air scribe like the CP9361 is my first try to remove broken bolts when the bolt was broken from tension or over torquing.
Holy s*** I just learned something about removing broken bolts that I’d never heard of. Thank you! Please excuse me I have to go cp9361 scribe shopping now.

I should be back on the dozer blade today removing the other broken bolts. There is an entire yard full of equipment that needs some kind of major or minor PM/repair and even more showing up daily. Right now, I think I could keep 3 trucks busy for a while. Shifting around to multiple repairs is not something I generally like to do............well, I take that back. I CAN do it and have for years but the volume of it is what is killing me. I'm enjoying the challenge of it all but good grief........I definitely don't have the stamina I had even 5 years ago. I could work 18-hour days and not catch up.

My JD dealer support is worthless. I had them come out on a Bomag BW211 about 9 days ago with a fault code for the fuel rail PRV. I waited a week before that for them to even show up, but they finally did. He plugged in his computer and 30 minutes later confirms it's the PRV. I told him to get it and fix it since I am swamped and I'm paying you for being here anyway...........and by the way, I have another identical Bomag with the same issue and same code, so get 2 PRV's. I haven't heard a word since............I called this last Monday morning to find out what the hell is going on and the service manager didn't answer the phone, so I left a message. I still haven't heard from them. The moral, if you can call it that, is the machine has been down for 3 weeks for something that should have taken no more than 2 days and their lack of communication is just pissing me off more by the day.

I have a Superior broom in the shop at the moment while I am waiting on numerous parts for equipment I already have torn down and waiting. I needed 3 electrical rocker switches for the headlamp, strobe, and water pump. I called the dealer, which is Cat by the way, and ordered them. I explained what I needed; they looked them up no problem. I picked them up yesterday........

The switches didn't come with the rocker part LOL. Does anyone else think this is just stupid? Another day down because of this ignorance. One thing is for sure fellas.................I'm definitely NOT bored!
