If I read correctly, you can either have tandem drive with chain or tandem drive with double reduction rear ends.

Just how long was this choice available, when did they do away with the chain drive? I know I drove a former chain drive, but it had been changed out, or at least that is what my uncle told me.

With that wrought iron grille and the style of badges the KW ad above would have to be late 30's early 40's.

Correct-but did that come from my other post on another thread. I let the cat out of the bag.
From 42 to early 46 there were less than 400 built in Yakima, there is no exact number
of how many but estimate is less than 90 a year.

Sterling i think made the last chain drive truck in the middle 60s. I would like to have known how long the chains lasted and hear stories about them. They most have been ok to go that long or they would have went away long ago.

I wish my IH had a flat 2 piece windsheild this spring i broke a chain and the cable came over the top and slapped it braking it this is the second time its happen. I never had it licensed but its handy to have a windsheild to keep out rain and snow.IMG_20220702_105551.jpg

I worked for a Kenworth dealer from 1980 until 2004. I was unaware
they ever built a truck with a one piece windshield.

Finding a complete/for sure KW built between 42 to 46 is extremely rare. I only know
of one a 1944 that is for sure built in Yakima. Many say they know where one is but
the chances are it doesn't exist. Plus very few people even knew there were Kenworths
built in Yakima until I and another guy started posting about them.

Also seems to be some commonality with horse collar grills in that era.

The Hayes bear in the picture has been on my tool box for over 30 years. I took it off the drivers door of an old Hayes HD log truck that had been parted out. There were two HD's one had gold bears on it. I gave the gold one away to a guy that was a Hayes truck enthusiast. Does anyone know what the significance of the gold was?
