Another 1 1/4" of rain, road is fast becoming a mud bog. So much for our 2 yo re-gravel....of course, can't anyone slow down. Just bore on thru.

My pet peeve is that they won't split the tracks. They just keep driving in the same ruts, thru the same pothole......

We've had a wet weather system stalled over us since Tuesday. Have only gotten 1/2" or rain and we got it the first day. It's just been nasty, 40F, wet wind. This morning it's spitting snow off and on. Won't amount to anything. No drying at all....

Sheep. WE did a road job years ago. Here, on highway builds, after your subgrade which is normally sandstone. You step in, and do 9 inches of 3 inch minus, step in, and do another 9 inch lift, then step in and do 6 inches of 1 1/4 minus, then pave. The 3 inch was really wet. It had passed the tests, but once down and rolled, the moisture was crazy high. It would grade out nice, but this was an open road, and as soon as the first loaded truck went over it. it would rut 3 or 4 inches. Even though it was really wide, the cars would drive in the ruts that the trucks would make. Ended up cutting it back to subgrade, and changing to another pit. I do grading on some of the haul roads. The trucks know , they only get it twice a year. I always tell them to slow down for a couple days, and get it packed down a bit. No.... it's hammer down, and it starts to washboard right away.

Speaking of washboards. I've had people ask me why I grade those washboards on steep hills and/or at stop signs. They think I make them on purpose.

WE got about 5 inches in 3 hours this morning, and then it started raining. Was out opening up stuff around ten this morning. Stayed out till three. Probably go back out around three in the morning to clean up. Followed the city grader when I was leaving our shop. I don't know what bran their wing is, but it is really tall. No posts, hooks to the rear ripper. The one I never get to use for my grader is a Craig, but I bet his wing is a good 16 inches taller than mine.

The ice just ran here last Saturday. I have one little pile of snow left in the yard. My sister lives in Oshawa outside of Toronto, and she has been planting flowers, and her hubby has been getting the lawn mower ready. Mind you I have plowed in the first week of June before, but that is just gross

I see more snow for the west on the way, yuck! Going to sweep a couple parking lots on the weekend with the open broom on the loader. No new grader yet.

There was talk of lifting the weight restrictions early, but no sign yet. Northern New Brunswick opens a week after you guys in Nova Scotia. My new little grader is supposed to be at Sancton in Dartmouth. Been studying the joystick control. I've finally given in, and agreed to take charge of my own crew. On the plus side, I get a company truck, but not a real fan of having to do the paperwork and run the job from the machine. Mind you there is only 3 of us, and most of the time, the foreman has been my laborer. I have been training my foremen for years, and they need my last one to move on to other tasks.

Never heard when they are lifting the weight restrictions for us, thinking soon, congrats on your new position, company truck is a must now with the price of fuel, big savings for you.

The only good part is the halfton. No more money, but now I have to fill out all the safety crap. I like jumping in the machine and letting someone else sweat the details.
