That isn't any ordinary low boy and truck, and the shovel is loaded from the side. The gents in the photo look to have done a lot of this kind of work. It also strikes me of the kind of things that were done in those days.

It might been something that was done before my time in the woods , but it is the first time I have seen it done . Mind you the camp I started at had a Washington TL6 on a rubber tire carrier that was very mobile .

For short moves we quite often hauled the dragline with the tracks cross way on the trailer the boom hanging out the back.

Back in the early 1980s a large logging contractor in my area shut down and sold off their fleet of Pacific P16s
and Hayes HDX and Kenworth 850 logging trucks. Another logging contarctor bought ten of them at auction for
very little money. The shop I worked at took a few of those trucks and replaces the V12 Detroit's
with Cummins KT19 engines and replaced the Allison transmissions with 12 speed Mack transmissions,
rebuilt the Clark BD-91000 diffs and whatever else they needed. That engine transmission combination worked out
well for the mountains around here.

At the same auction another logger picked up a five year old Kenworth 848 log truck with a V12 Detroit and a 15 speed fuller and 4640 diffs with trailer ready to go to work for $2500.
