Hello all

We are having a hard time finding a pin and cushion kit for a Holland fifth wheel. There part number is BK 171-12309. We are replacing the top plate and it has the larger pins but nobody has the kit for it. Thanks for any info

Throw that Holland in the scrap pile before you drop a trailer and put a Fontaine on. Thank me later.

I've had, and have several of each. Both brands are safe and reliable in my experience only requiring routine maintenance and adjustments.

Could you explain your bias?

30 years of listening, several bad experiences with Holland, and never a single issue with a Fontaine or copycat Jost. I do not care at all for the jaw design on a Holland, especially on trucks that live on dirty gravel roads, not to mention if you don't notice the jaw bolt getting tight, the jaws won't close completely until you back the nut off a bit. I could go on, but that's enough for now.

Obviously, textbook operation *should* prevent a dropped trailer, but textbook operation EVERY cycle only occurs in Fantasyland.

Thank you. I've certainly worked on a lot of trucks and tractors over the years and have rebuilt several of each brand. If kept up on maintenance routines they seem to be pretty trouble free. I've never personally known anyone to drop a trailer myself that could be attributed to equipment failure but a couple from operators being complacent in connections and functional checkout.

We've all done it. Quick tug after the snap, jam on the lines, grab the Johnson bar a time or two, and hammer down. Obviously it's possible on a Fontaine, but a whole lot less likely with that locking bar across the back.

We have several Hollands, never had any problems or have heard any bad things about them until now. We do the normal maintenance and adjustments as needed which is not that often, these spend a lot of time on gravel roads in the woods. But none of this has anything to with with the OP's question which I have no answer to, hopefully someone does.

I've worked on hundreds of Holland Simplex swinging jaw/lock and double jaw fifth wheels and have never seen a kingpin twist out of either one, once the jaws lock and safety locks are engaged those things are bullet proof..The biggest problem is yard guys and drivers hitting the pin, giving a little tug and driving away without getting out of the truck to visually check..We've all done this at least once, if you're lucky the trailer falls on the frame rails and you have to crank the hell out of the dolly legs to save your ass, but if you're making a turn and the load keeps going straight that's never good..For most of us that only happens once...Nowing 75 check the Fleetpride dealer for parts I think there's a couple in Indiana, if you can't source actual Holland parts OTR makes kits as well

Holland is backed up on replacement parts and complete fifth wheels.

On a Holland once the fork is back the doors are closed off for jaws to open.
Every malfunction I have ever seen on jaws not locking happened because
the driver high pinned it on hook up and bends one side of the fork. The SAE
test for fifth wheels and king pins is rigorous.
