I purchased a used 2004 L25B with 2 speed trans and the machine seems to lack power even when driving empty up a slight incline. I also don't feel it reaches max speed while driving on flat ground. I just got the unit and have not worked it on a job site or serviced yet this has only been used in the yard for a few hours. I also haven't heard the hydraulic cooling fan kick on. Any suggestions?

Does this unit have a high speed travel option? If not I think your max speed is about 12 mph, I have a Deere 244j it too is sluggish going up inclines etc. How many hours on the unit? maybe hydraulic fluid filter should be changed? im not sure, im sure others can help...good luck

It is a two speed which should be around 6 mph low gear and 12 mph high gear. I do believe that the previous owner did keep up with the maintenance (but who is going to admit to poor maintenance when selling) but there is a possibility that filters/fluid/screen might need attention. I do plan to dig into the machine in the weeks to come and I hope it is a simple fix such as that. I do have another machine with a similar setup (older Coyote loader who Volvo bought out and seem similar) Duetz diesel and two speed trans and this one has a ton more power. I have a Cat 907 (little bigger) and it has plenty of power as well. I still wonder if the fan is not cooling the fluid and causing issues

good question...I always thought the fan would kick on when hydraulics get hot, but what do I know...I'm not a mechanic....keep us posted.

The first things I would check are the throttle and inching valve. Make sure you are getting full throttle at the injection pump when the pedal is fully depressed. Check to see if the inching pedal is releasing fully. Also there is an option for a rotary hand inching valve to set vehicle speed while using implements like a broom. Either of these things will affect your travel performance.

I had one in my shop a year or so ago, the cooling fan for the hydraulics was electric. That one in particular had shorted and had to be replaced. He had a drive issue also, turned out to be a weak port relief on the pump, took Strongco three attempts to get the right one in.

I know its been a long time since I have been on here and thank you to all who have replied. I am still having the same issue (lack of push power) and I know it is not the motor as it runs strong. I would like to check into the relief port as stated by BIGSMOKE if anyone has any info on that please let me know.

Have you checked to see that the throttle lever is hitting the stop when the pedal is depressed? What is rpm's at full throttle? Have you cleaned and checked the inching pedal to see if it is returning fully when released? Have you checked servo pressure at the pump? All of this must be verified before going any further.
