Good thread, One thing I have not seen discussed here is insurance requirements. We insure our trucks for a higher gross weight than anything we haul. In MN if you are licensed and insured at whatever weight and are caught overweight, not only will you pay a fine for being overweight, but you will also get another citation for being under insured. Your policy must state the insured weight or they will go by the registered weight. One of our contract drivers just paid a $1,700.00 fine a few weeks ago.
