Is it okay to grease your machine after operating it at the end of the day as apposed to what seems to be more common which is greasing it in the morning b4 working it? Does it somehow go bad some overnight?

Greasing in the morning or the end of the day is really a personal preference. I prefer to grease at the end of the day, after all you are already dirty from the days work and I would rather have grease on me at the end of the day instead of wearing it all day. (Yeah I always seem to get at least some on me)
The grease doesn't go bad it just gets used. Different working conditions and different materials will require more greasing. For example I have been working in a silty clay material that when it's dry just eats grease out of the pins. When the material is wet it's like gumbo. We were working this material a month or so ago and it was wet. Daily greasing was fine. The last week or so the material has been dry and powdery, so I have to grease twice a day.
Just remember that grease is cheap compared to worn P&B's and line boring. Use it often.![]()

Its much better to use less grease but grease more often. Over greasing can be as bad as under greasing.........When you grease once a day its probably a bit over greased to begin with and starving for lube by the time your done.
Yair . . . Dunno HeavyOp. I have never seen machines greased before a shift. All servicing and fueling used to normally done at knock off.
As CM1995 says its not too good working a shift after you've been grovelling around greasing diagonal braces and what all.
We always worked two shifts and main service was at midday. The blokes that did the morning shift did the crap jobs like greasing and washing and changing the oil in the air-cleaners (???) and the afternoon blokes did the fueling and such like.
Cheers.
Thanks guys. Yeah I guess maybe greasing after machine use is more common anyways.
I always used to give the hydraulic breaker a few shots of high melting point grease every 2 hours.. always greased at the end of the shift never at the start
I don't care as long as it does get greased

As a field mechanic I prefer our guys to grease at the end of the day. When they grease in the mornings then they always find a problem that needed to be fixed last night.
I hate greasing in the morning and generally do it in the afternoon because the grease is warmer and flows better.
