Yair . . . Friends of ours have just taken delivery of a tracked Challenger (I think it is one of the last units here to be offered with the Cat engine).
They are not that impressed so far. It's taking a while to sort out all the bugs.
GPS, A/C, track adjustment all sorts of minor stuff but it's costing time and they didn't expect to have those kind of hassles when they paid a premium for what is supposedly top of the line gear.
Any comments from other folks that have them?
What kind of work are they doing with it? We had a MT745A, used it mostly towing a 6 meter set of discs and a 6 meter power harrow on flat to very steep land, was excellent in the dry, made wheel tractors look hopeless, but struggled in the wet with drive wheels slipping inside tracks.
Main wire snapped off the alternator 350hrs, Heui fuel pump was replaced at 400hrs, #5 injector was replaced at about 1100hrs brakes had to be rebuilt at 1750hrs, only had a track off it once and that was in a pretty steep and rugged spot.
i do a fair bit of work for a bloke that has a 85E, and he's had no troubles with it and it has 7500hrs on the clock, he also has a MT745 with close to 2000hrs on it and has had no problems with it so far
Yair . . . thanks for replys. Hopefully once these initial glitches are over things will settle down.
It looks like the dealer is going to replace the entire track adjuster assembly . . . still waiting on parts for the A/C but they have actualy fitted a valve to turn off the hot water circulating through the cab heating system . . . an improvement on two small pieces of plate and a 'G' clamp to squash the hose flat!!!
