    Track swapping

I have a well used Allis HD7G and due for track rails/pads, come to find 7.00 pitch rail is discontinued in as much as new, used are not fairing much better as scrap prices have bought up most of it. My machine works well but the master pin links eyes have opened up and will not hold anymore. Deere 750 series used a 6.906 pitch rail, 3/32 shorter, can this be used as a replacement? has anyone used JD 6.906 rail on a Allis? Comments? Old machine works well and cheap, I would hate to have to scrap it just due to rails. Many old IH Dresser units also used 7.00 pitch can they use the Deere 6.906?

Yair . . .DMiller with those masterpins, why not just weld the pins in if they are really loose. You have nothing to lose if the rails are stuffed and you might get a few more hours. Watch it though if the rails are cracked, they always seem to choose to fall off in the most difficult inaccessable place

On the twenty ones I used cut throught he boss of the link with the gas axe and reweld with pin in place.

Personaly I wouldn't imagine the 3/32 would make a lot of difference if your sprockets are worn . . . there would be a bit of screeching and high initial wear untill things wore in a little (others on here will have a different view).

On the other hand I have rebuilt track rails with the welder . It deponds on how you value your time and the tractor.

    Cheers.

I have think the 3/32 would be fine if everything else is the same when the ware a bit they will be 7 in.the last new sprockets i got were not that close anyway, I put deere rollers on a allis loader one time.

Would probably end up with used rails anyway but they are accessible where the 7.00 pitch Allis are not, should have enough wear to get the end result of 7.00 pitch. One other bother is if they used 15" pads or wider, another ponder but thanks so far for the info and input.

I perhaps have lucked into a set of rails in not too awful shape, master pins were tight when the fellow took them off the 7G tractor he is scrapping out so I am now trying to get to them to buy them. Are old dozer rails, 15" shoes single grouser but well worn or cut down shoes, rails links, bushings, and pins are in better shape than mine and should keep my machine working for a few more years. Scrap is where it will end up when I am done with it.
