Sounds pretty spendy. But, What was the reason for bringing it into the shop? Does your bill give the amount of time spent diagnosing the original problem? I just checked the Deere website and a PVC for a 120-3 lists for $2080.00. Add to that some time for diagnostics and sales tax ect. and soon you could well be at $4100.00.

Wow, you guys do get hosed on parts pricing down there!

It takes a dealership about 10 minutes to diagnose a bad pvc, half hour to change it out,10 minutes to test run and 10 minutes to do up the service report.

    So,consider yourself hosed.

It might take 10 minutes to diagnose a bad PVC ect. but with a machine this old, and at a cost of $2080.00, I would want to spend a good amount of time finding what caused the problem in the first place. And I've also had it where the Dr EX did not show a code for bad PVC but it still ended up being the problem. Lots of different senarios out there. I would still like to hear what the original problem was.

I had to buy one for my EX150/5. Retail was 1400 but haggled to 1000. Took about 20 mins to channge myself. As you say problem is diagnosis. Check for the red light in the top if its got one. If its on its powering up. If there's not light the Dr EX wont even talk to it! Take care when you change one that you dont blow another!

I had to replace the computer in my EX200-2 and it cost $1700. BUT there were all kinds of other issues that caused the computer to blow, ie. alternator was putting out well in excess of 36 volts, the wiring harness was damaged and badly repaired with plenty of short circuits and open circuits, and in the end it cost me close to 6 grand to repair everything including new batteries, a starter, alternator, wiring harnesses, etc... When they changed your computer did they say what all they did? Was it just unplug the old one and put the new one in? If so then yes, you got hosed. But if they did troubleshooting, found and fixed the issue that caused the computer to go south in the first place then you probably got a fair price, depending on what was done. If all they did was change the computer, I highly reccomend a thorough troubleshooting to see why the old one blew so that you don't end up sizzle frying the new one right away... Hope this helps.
