    How long should the engine oil dip stick be ?

    did you loose it? and need to make one? quite vague question,if you are making one fined the oil capacity in the book ,add two quarts less mark it then one qt less mark it then mark the full mark on the stick. same if its broke and need to weld it.

    Funny you should ask this question. I just bought a TD7C and its dipstick has been welded so I am hoping it is the original length. Jeff is right though, I have heard of this being done. My manuals are on order so I will have to wait to see what the fluid capacities are. But I would also be interested in knowing what the length of the stick is supposed to be.

    just be sure when you change the oil and filters to run the engine with two quarts less per book spec, before you mark the stick or check the welded one, so the filters can fill so the level is correct.I like to prefill the filters but one needs to be very careful so dirt does not get in there.
