Well things always work out O.K. I went to the site with the U-S gearbox sorted out the £££s for undoing those tight bolts and found the Fitters from Wales to be some great lads, they have been out of work for about 18 months just picking up a few odd jobs as and when they can, after undoing the bolts I also set free the Flex plate as these lads still had plenty of work ahead to get this transmission out, all the pipes had just been undone and left hanging, not capped off just sort of chucked off, the Hydraulic tank had been drained into a Dust Bin the water was also saved in another Dust Bin (trash Can that Top Cat lives in), the transmission oil was in various pots and pans sparkling in the Sunshine with the amount of iron particals enhancing its hue, anyhow I invited these 2 chaps to a breakfast beano at my expence and we laughed about every thing and every body, then swapped phone No's with a bit of back slapping plus hand shaking to say good day, I bet that Dumper is bone dry of Diesel by the time those lads set off for home???.
Today has been like living the Dream again for me, as I get a call to sort a faulty quick hitch on a Volvo 210 excavator, then cop a load of work on a D65-15 komatsu blade and then get asked "Do I know anything about these old trucks we are running" as they need a few jobs done???, the old trucks are CAT 769B's with the overhead Cam motor and the 9 speed 3x3 drive divider transmission, sadly I cannot start on them till later next week as I have so much other crap in bits.
Raress, its (to me) no advantage to remove the wheel on these 725 jobs as you have to remove the Mudwing and the tilty cab thing gives plenty of room to get that pin out, you can see I used a hollow ram to suck it from its seat, the top pin is a bit easier to tackle and is not caked in muck etc the top pin I fired out using a long drift and big hammer, I only strip wheels off to do a brake job if I can.

A bit more detail on the old bangers, the loading shovel is a JCB 465 ?? or something like that, 1 of the hoist rams was bent through "see Driver for details" the pins were solid in the locations and took some steam to set them moving, then there is the CAT 769B's X 3 and the Komatsu 65px-15 plus 3 excavators that I have been given to look after, sound bit of a job with more pics soon, the next 2 pic's are removing a rotary coupling for a re-seal on a JS 220LC, this machine has all the toys on board, Hammer line + nibbler also a secial weed cutter line, this made getting the coupling out a bit of a dog, although I must admit to having a great Sunday doing it, the Sun was perfect plus I had my Wireless (radio) playing music from the 70's so I was singing a fair bit and doing plenty of " Dad Dancing" with 4 Polish lads watching me with odd faces, the red engine is a Rolls Royce tag 2 unit with damage to the liners and camshaft+followers, this motor is on a tight budget I was told, the owner always tells me this ??? the grey painted engines are Cummins Big Cams etc CAT 3406's that I have just done big stuff to on the same tight budget no doubt

    Tony,

How does that rotary coupleing come out, is it through the top or do you need to crawl underneat and drop it down from below (along with all the oil running down your sleeves)?

Richard, J.S. coupling are best removed from the bottom, the mess thing is fairly minimal, and I dont try to mop oil up with my clothing, I firstly vent the tank of any psi, then start undoing pipes, I always fit steel blanking plugs in the hose/pipe ends this keeps the floods to nothing, the pull lift is used to lower the coupling down, its a simple job to do with great results, as the tracking power improvement is amazing.
I had 3 jobs to do this Sunday, A komatsu blade and 2 excavators, I could not find the 1 excavator, so I phoned the owner who gave me the drivers phone N'o, I then called the driver only to find the excavator was in Bedford and the driver had Low loaded it from the site (60 miles) to do a little cash job without the bosses permission, an hour later the boss calls me to ask if things are O.K. I told him that I could not make contact with his driver and left the site not willing to waste anymore time looking for the thing, I so wanted to tell the owner the truth as lies are so easily found out, but I sort of half took the soft route by not getting involved, the owner is a bit of a psycho (I think thats how you spell it) so it might be sparks flying soon, its a Volvo 220 LC so its not like its a mini digger doing a patio job, the cheek of some people????

Richard the Firm (me) is flat out, I am off to Cardiff to test and whip out a transmission on a CAT D6M tomorrow, its a good bit lighter than the D6R tractor, today I refitted a swing box in an old wreck of a Case 855 (I think??) rubber duck thing that works in a waste transfer site, its covered in Rat crap and is not the best job I have had to put up with, yesterday I was working on a Moxy Dump truck, nothing to serious just realy checking things ready for the muck shift starting on Monday,on the site I spotted a Volvo 140 excavator working throwing out a right good bit of "Darkness" (black smoke) out of its Funnel, so I told the owner on site that I might be able to sort that, his usual fettler said it needed the engine rebuilt, anyhow it was sort of lazy on the swing I removed the air filter just to check???, then I popped the little rocker cover off to peep at the injectors and valve lash, only to find some knob had fitted the injectors in 180 deg out on 3 cylinders, the engine is a D4D something or other Deutze, then I poked about with the feeler gauge and boxed it all back together, fired to little banger up to see a perfect little swinger ready for a pilot running like a Swiss Watch, the owner called me to thank me today saying it is like night and day the difference, he ownes a few of them so the knob might have lost a job???.
my wife tells me I am thick??, I say I know tctractors

Richard, I realy hope its an absolute mullered heap, thats how I like em, aparently it was in gear driving then suddenly stopped the brakes are working and there is about 450 psi at the trans filter, so it could be mechanical or an oil snag, I went to a banger once and the load piston plug had fell out, but I sort of have it in my mind to whip out its innards, it could be a great job in the Sun.

p.s. I think Funnel is better than exhaust its sort of bigger

Rare ss when I call the exhaust a funnel on sites, I get people thinking its the new name for the thing on the banger I am working on???, I travelled a good way yesterday hoping to cop a transmission repair on a D6M only to find a blanking plug had fell out, its somewere in the back case and will not hurt nothing, I could have had the job done in 20 mins.

Richard, I just thought I would say that this week has been a Blinding week for me, it has realy made up for a bitter cold and crap winter, every job in the early part of the year was an absolute Dog to tackle weather wise, a few high lights was the work I did in Hong Kong, but this week has been great, been to new sites and met new people that I like and get on well with, today was a see old mates and also met a few new CAT tractor men and had a great laugh, so I am "living the dream" plus picked up some more work and still breathing, I am thankfull for everthing good that comes my way, this week has been good and fun.

    a happy chap. tctractors
