Any of you folks ever built an auger drive for a skid steer?
Looking for plans or drawings that could give me some ideas.
I currently have a motor that I think will work and a couple of old cheek plates that I think I can build the quick attach plate with. Going to need some hoses and a line relief for sure. Don't really know what would work best for the drive. A small bull/pinion final drive or a planetary? Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

but I build this one last fall for my compact loader,simple and effective.
i got a 12" auger bit on it and drilled over a 100 holes with it sofar.
That is exactly the idea of what I am looking for. Very nice unit, compact and neat! 12" is also the perfect size for what I thought I would like to try and build. Can you tell me what the motor drives into? Any reduction there? Planetary?
Can you give me any other information on the unit itself? Do you have a line relief in the circuit or do you just totally depend on main relief if you hit a rock or stall the auger?
It is direct drive with a heavy duty home build love joy coupler keyed to the shaft.
I used a 78 dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 front hub as the base(but any similair hub could be used).
The shaft is 2",it fits the orig hub brg and has a welded on collar for the seal to ride on and take up the trust.The other end is machined down to fit the second smaller brg and treaded for the orig hub spindle ring nuts.The tip of the shaft is machined down to 1 1/4 and keyed also.
The motor is max 125 RPM there is no seperate relief provided as i can set the added on control valve's relief ,i run it at high idle so it powers out when i hit a rock or lean on it to heavy.
I use it only at the farm,so production speed is not a concern to me.
At the bottom of the pic you can see part of the adaptor,that fits around the center tube of the cuick attach and held with a single pin.

The one difference that I can see between what you have done and what I have is the motor. Yours looks like gerotor? Mine will be gear. I'm just alittle concerned about impacts on the output shaft of the motor so I may plumb in a line relief just in case. My machine has aux's and an aux control valve, foot operated.
Will have to go to the wreckers and find a hub that will work but other than that I think it is totally buildable. I may even try to build my own auger. I have built combine augers and welded the flighting onto the shaft in the past with much success at a fraction of the cost.
This is great. I want to build something like this. I can get a hydraulic motor at princess auto for about $400. But I'm not sure how you attach the shaft of the motor to the auger bit. I'm assuming
that there is a sheer pin in there somewhere. Can anyone tell me the name of the part the auger bit attaches too. Can you buy these or is that the part from the 4X4 hub.
To clarify, I'm curious about the bottom half of the yellow part. I understand the lovejoy coupler for the 2 shafts. Also is there a bearing in there ?
The bottom half of the yellow part is the 4x4 hub,i used a 2" dia piece of shaft that replaces the spindle.
I machined the shaft down to fit the smaller inner taper bearing and lathe treaded an inch or so for the original spindle ring nuts and the very tip is turned down again and keyed to fit the home build lovejoy coupler half towards the motor side.
The auger side of the shaft fits the original 2" hub outer taper bearing and i welded a collar underneath that bottoms out against the bearing to take the downward trust and is turned down for the seal to ride on.
Ther is no shear pin provided,the coupler halves are both keyed and held with a couple set screws.
I drilled well over a hundred 12" x 5' deep holes with it sofar without a problem.
My fabrication skills are not where they need to be to build this but I've got a couple friends to learn from. I will have an auger. I won't pay $3000 for one.
I can probably get a hub for free. I think I can get a Char Lynn hydraulic motor at Princess Auto for about $400. I've got a couple old screw piles that I might try to use as an auger.
Someone told me you just have to clean the hole out more.
