    Bobcat T870

    Here are a few pictures of the new Bobcat T870 that I took at the HNA and GIE+E expo in Louisville Kentucky this past week. This is a huge CTL, it looks and is a lot bigger than a T300. Don't quote me but i think the sticker said it was around $70,000!! I got to sit in the machine and the cab has a ton of room in it and it was very comfortable, the M series cabs are nice. I didn't like how there was so much engine behind the cab though. When your sitting in the machine it seamed like there was 5ft from you to the back of the machine. Unfortunately Bobcat didn't have this machine in the outdoor demo area so I didn't get to try it out. This machine would probably make for an excellent replacement for a small dozer.

    all of the vents for the HVAC System are in the roof none at your feet. Also the wiper motor is in the line of sight to the cutting edge.

    I think the prior models were alot better

    Tom, were you able to look at the engine or other service compartments to compare ease of service, ect vs. the older machines?

    I have one ordered and scheduled to show up a few days before Thanksgiving- I'll be doing my own service, so I'm curious to know how well it is engineered. Sadly I haven't gotten a look in person at any of the new M-series stuff.

    This is my first piece of equipment ever (just bought land) so I'm a bit anxious to see it when it shows up.

    Tom I got to run a S650 recently and despite have more of a tail they have better visibility to the rear and the front, I found it to be a pretty nice machine to operate but I didn't take a good hard look at what the internals are like for serviceability.

    I didn't take a look at the engine or the other service components sorry. Make sure you post some pictures of it when it shows up!!

    My problem with the T870 is that it is only 7hp more than the T320. It is wider so now it will not fit between fenders on a traditional bobcat trailer and because it is wider you now need to buy all new buckets etc. It does look real nice though.

    i do like the new m630 at times but for me i would still take my s185 back

    I saw Kubota's new CTL the other day at Lawson's on the north perimeter looks like a pretty decent machine but I'd still give it a year or two in case any little "bugs" come up after all it is they're first step into the skid-steer/CTL market.

    does anyone know anything about the bobcat "power assist" controls that they released on these new machines? i like the sounds of it...too bad they dont offer it on the smaller machines.

    its close to 12K with a bucket and tank of gas. Its has the size to replace a dozer but not the power. I hope it flys but as all the mega size skids have really just gradually faded away.It looks cool in person.

    Well, my machine showed up at the dealer today. Will be waiting until Friday for my trailer to show up, so I sadly didn't get to take it home today as I'd like to, but I did play with it for about 2 hours around the dealership today.

    My first impression is that it is by NO means underpowered. I've seen plenty of complaints on the forums concerning the only 7hp rated difference between the T320 and T870, and was starting to get a bit paranoid after ordering. I'm happy to report that there is a significant difference (in my opinion- and I have used both a 300 and 320 previously) in the amount of pep that it has. Track speed seems to be a bit faster, overall movements in hydraulics are faster and from what I can tell the overall power of the hydraulics are up. Not sure where it comes from- might be the extra 300psi of hydraulic pressure, better pump/engine matching, or maybe just better geometry of the arm and bucket mechanisms but it really does feel better.

    The interior is pretty much as nice as what the claim on the M-series. Between the air ride seat and the roller suspension it is just stupid smooth for a skid/track loader of any kind- honestly feels more like a somewhat stiff truck than a piece of equipment. Engine noise both inside and out is a good deal quieter.

    My concerns about the serviceability were pleasantly met. Compared to the K series stuff, it looks to be a pleasure to work on. Visibility inside the cab is much better, and the bells and whistles sure do make a day's work inside seem a lot more attractive.

    There are a few small drawbacks compared to some of the other machine selections. First off, its just too damn wide to fit between the wheel wells on a normal equipment trailer. Had to order a 10T tandem/dual wheel gooseneck for our F450 to fit both the size and weight of the machine. We will be using it on 35 acres of fairly open land, but I wouldn't expect it to fit anywhere exceptionally tight and still have room to work without lots of four-letter words. Secondly, I will have to say it will take a bit of getting used to with the longer "tailswing" (for a lack of better term) with the longer machine and cab forward. There may only be a minimal actual difference in how much the ass end swings out, but it certainly feels like more because of the positioning of the cab.

    If your looking for something to replace a small dozer (somewhat literally) and still work great as a CTL in open places, I think anyone would be very happy, and comfy, in the 870's. Just don't expect it to fit in small spaces, and you'll have to overlook the sticker shock.

    We have used the T650 for close to 100 hrs this fall. The weather here has been so extremely wet that our 873 was just making a mess of things. Wow, what a difference the tracks made!

    We were pleased with the power the machine has and the work that it can perform. Loved the forward visibility that the machine offers, and the "tailswing" was not as evident as I thought it would be. Cab features were all nice to use and the cab was very comfortable.

    The downfall to the machine was the hydraulic "whine". I am not sure if this would lessen as the machine "wears in", we returned the machine with 117 hrs as it was on a short term demo/rental.

    The decision was made to order a new T650 for a February delivery! I am still concerned with the hydraulic noise.........

    My question, sorry if I am hijacking, has anyone else had/heard the louder thatn normal hydraulic noise?
