Where does the transmission fluid disappear?

It has to be going somewhere. Have you checked other systems for overfilling, that would indicate bad seals allowing transmission oil to transfer?

    Genuine VS Chinese parts

That may be so, but you're paying for QC and warranty that just won't be present on a Chinesium Amazon-special part.

    Big dozers

D11s are totally adequate for the copper mines down here. If more capacity is needed, they'll either put a second D11 on the job or pair it with a D10.

    Missing Oil Fill Cap

@kshansen It was indeed a Lenz 557. Thanks for your help!

259D conversion to mechanical bucket coupler?

236D and 242D in my case. These were cleanup machines on mines, and saw frequent attachment swaps. Frozen mud seemed to accelerate the electric coupler failures.

    Missing Oil Fill Cap

That might actually be exactly what was originally installed! I'm waiting to hear back from a vendor, but a whole Lenz kit including screen and retention chain is only $35 so I might as well order one.

    Missing Oil Fill Cap

Pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. I think I loosened it with my boot and it flew out when I hit a bump. We were working in a 200' long drift with several inches of water in much of it, walked it a few times, no dice. I finished mucking, parked the machine, and zip-tied a rubber glove...

Case580n Idles good but won't accelerate

When you say accelerate, do you mean it won't go into gear or won't throttle up when in neutral?

Cummins Fined $1.6 Billion Over Allegations It Outfitted Dodge Rams With Software To Cheat Emissions

They still haven't figured out that throwaway junk is the worst for emissions and material waste. Want to save the environment? Build reliable products that aren't ready for the torch after a year. I'm looking at you, 777G. My other job has five of the things and on any given day maybe two are...

    Sarah Merget

Hi Sarah, I'm HardRockNM. Hard rock as in hard rock mining, not music. I have developed a shallow understanding of creating unengaging content that misinforms viewers about the realities of mining. Namely by insinuating that it can be profitable; in reality a mine is a hole in the ground into...

    calling out the Deutz vatican

I run a couple of Deutz 912Ws with large accessory oil coolers for torque converters and hydrostatic systems. All are located downstream of the jug fins and engine oil cooler, and see severe underground production service. As said above, you're overthinking it - the temperature of cooling air in...

    CAT 226/8 Opinions

Two replies that firm is a sign to look elsewhere! I won't consider a Bobcat since I hate foot controls, Case is a contender and we have a good relationship with our local Case dealer. I haven't heard much bad about the 1845/1840/1835, how about the XT series?

    CAT 226/8 Opinions

I'm looking at a CAT 226 or 228 as a general utility machine and a backup loader for when our LHD is down or busy. What issues are these and the 3034C (one guy I work with calls them Perkapillars) known for, and are they generally dependable? My CAT skid-steer experience with other companies is...

    D5h

I've got no experience with a D5H, but start by lubricating the linkage. If it has grease fittings (seen in controls on some older machines), use grease. Otherwise try a penetrating oil or sprayable grease.

    Earth Moving Equipment

You could write a book just on the hard rock side, and never even get into underground coal equipment.

Approximate cost to relocate Big CAT dump trucks?

793s are routinely moved between mines out here. Each truck requires about six loads - the frame (including engine and torque converter), bed, rear axle, front struts, tires, and cab are all shipped separately. It's surprising how compact the frame and powertrain are by themselves. 777s and...

    CB channel 9

We use digital UHF here for both underground and surface work. Other traffic on the road is fairly minimal, although once we start hauling ore down we'll need to make some kind of arrangement as having one of the Can-Am idiots get pancaked by a 30-ton artic would be a bad look.

ATF Type F Substitute For Hydrostatic

After further work, it looks like you were correct. The motor shifter had been adjusted to allow excessive travel, which prevented it from going into low range. Once I got the shifter adjustment back in spec, the machine runs faster on the decline and bogs far less. I mucked quite a bit with it...

Sheared Valve Stem On Split Rim

Final update: I grabbed the right tools, broke the tire down, got the rim unstuck, and had the tire built and partially aired up at a tire shop. Mounting and final air-up (with chains to contain the hardware) was done in the field without any drama or excitement.

    gotta get new safety hemet

I've run into more things because of safety glasses destroying my depth perception than I've had safety glasses prevent a potential eye injury. Blowing dust gets around them and into my eyes anyways.
