What's your favorite winshield washer fluid

Dump about 8 ounces of vinegar in the tank when you add fluid. It cuts the oily stuff and is cheap.

580 k starter job drive me nuts

At our age we give advice and don't do stuff like this in crazy weather anymore. Worked on enough stuff in the cold to last me a lifetime. These days I have 3 torpedo heaters and still don't like working on my own stuff if it can wait.

final drive leak when brought in from the cold

Most likely the case and seals expanded from the warmth faster than the ice cold innnards did. Perhaps the side that leaked was closer to your heat source.

    Back in town

Keep on fighting! I can relate to the learning to walk again all too well. Docs told my wife I would be lucky to live 6 months and that was over 7 years ago. It ain't always fun but I refuse to give up. I am lucky I have some good Amish neighbors and their boys help me with things that I am...

    case 580 suoer k transmission

My 580 K was like that when I got it. The bolt that holds the shifter lever had backed off and allowed it to wear the mating piece. After taking up the floor pans I used a flat file to reshape the piece and it has worked fine ever since.

    komatsu pc50 heat not working

unhook the hose from the "gate valve" and see if you have flow there. I have ran into this more than once where the valve unscrewed from the gate that was stuck in the closed position.

    troubleshooting fermec engine wont start

Fuel filters or ice in the supply lines from tank to engine. Usually block heaters need and hour or 2 to be very effective. Have you tried adding some kerosene to the fuel? That will help if the fuel is gelling. Best cure for gelling or ice is a good salamander heater and a tarp.

Front and rear chains too much stress on drivetrain? Twist over v-bar?

I like the v bar ice cutters. I have the spring tensioners front and rear. The rear ones are heavy but I don't use any special tools to put them on. The past few years I borrow one of the Amish boys to help put them on. Get some threaded repair links for the extra links or use some real heavy...

Front and rear chains too much stress on drivetrain? Twist over v-bar?

I have been doing it for 10 years. Been doing it in my 1 ton 4/4 pickup for 17 years. You will wear your u-joints quicker than anything. When it is icy and steep you will find it goes better uphill in reverse. If you drive uphill going forward it takes too much weight off the front wheels. I...

New Holland W170B Front End Loader Keets shutting off

I would check the fuel shut off solenoid to be sure you are keeping power to it. It may be energizing to start and dropping out when you release the key from start position.

    416b warning light / gauges

I would start with the ground cable at the battery. Remove it and clean it down to good bare metal where it goes to the machine. Clean the terminals good also.

Clearance for mud chains on backhoe: Case -vs- Cat -vs- Deere -vs- Ford

I run V-bar ice cutter chains on my 580K with no clearance problems. They make all the difference in the world when it gets icy. Without them even in 4 wheel drive I have to back up my lane. I chain all 4 wheels and was able to pull out my neighbors 4wd John Deere tractor that he slid over an...

Please help! How can I prevent a tractor from entering my property?

3/4 in. rebar cut at an angle buried in the road they come in on. Take out some tractor tires and they will lose interest quick. FMJ ammo works well also.....

    Extend-a-hoe slide lubrication

I use Napa dry graphite spray on my Case and Cat extend-a- hoe booms. The dirt does not stick to it and it works for me.

    Buyer beware

Thieves don't worry about serial numbers. Neighbor just had his big Ford tractor stolen right out of the hayfield. They un hitched the round baler and loaded it up on a lowboy. Put the screws to haymaking which is why mine is only half done so far. They do need to get a stolen equipment registry...
