    Manufacturing tours?

I've been on a tour thru Cat's plants in Illinois where they build their dozers, large wheel loaders, compactors, and pipe layers as well as the foundry where the engines are made. It was one heck of an awesome experience. If you ever get the chance it is well worth it. I've also been to...

Shop Equipment Who else use these

You did an awesome job re-storing that, looks really good. I would love to have one in our shop, but have the same problem- too expensive and wouldn't be used enough to justify the cost of a new one. What you did is the way to go.

    source for buckets

Not sure about aftermarket, but lately there have been some good deals on Iron Planet. They have online auctions just about every Thursday. If you set up a profile you can add what ever you're looking for to a want or "needs" list. When something comes up that matches your needs, they will send...

    963 final drive repair

Thats basicaly what I was tying or meant to say, If there were shims present at disassembly then put it together with same shims, and if the sprocket turns easily and feels normal, then you're good. You do make a very good point in having to measure the gap between the retainer plate and dead...

skid steer solutions VS. mclaren nu-air flat proof tire which is better

We bought a set of Mclaren tires for our 763 Bobcat a little over a year or so ago. They have held up quite well so far although it has not had a whole lot of hours put on it. When we originally bought the machine, we foam filled the stock tires and they were shot by the time the machine had...

    Rip pr450

What was the reason for scrapping? That machine doesn't look to be in very bad shape, although I don't know squat about paving equipment.

    Why no side shift hoes?

Thanks Cmark, makes sense. I'm gonna keep an eye peeled when I'm out and about in case I come across one and get an up close look.

    Really Nice Older Iron

Cool pics! Never seen a Marshall tractor before. And you're right, that is one fine looking D8K. Several local contractors in this area still run some 8K's that are in good shape. I've also seen a nice D8H working up the road from me a while back. Much nicer than the one I use to run.

    Why no side shift hoes?

I've never actually seen a sideshift hoe in person. If the hoe slides on a rail as Steve wrote, What keeps it in place while digging?

    963 final drive repair

I've never done a final drive re-seal on a 963, but have done quite a few on 973s. A few have had shims to adjust the preload on the bearings. If you have a service manual, it should cover this procedure. If not, I always just install the sprocket with bearings, bolt the hub/gear on with the...

    Gear pullers

Thats a very impressive tool you've got there. Gonna have to look in to gettin one of those. I have a drawer full of misc old parts and oddball stuff that come in real handy for pressing in bushings and bearings. Lots of homemade slug wrenches, pushers and pullers. I have a hard time throwing...

    regarding track sizes

Some Cat track chains will fit other makes of machines, for instance the chains and shoes on a cat 973 will will work on a Liebherr 641 track loader, I have been told that the same chains will also work on some older D7's. They also use the same carrier rollers. But as stated above, Contact your...
