    Jd 2355

I have a 2355 tractor with almost 1/2 turn of play in the steering wheel before any response from the steering linkages. I have blown two steel lines on this tractor. The lines are coming apart at the ferrule on the steering column. Could the play in the steering column be causing some kind of...

    PowerTilt Rebuild

We just received a helac power-tilt from one of our other jobs. It came with no hoses and only 3 plugs. It appears that one side of the unit is metric while the other is standard. Is this the case? I've always seen these set up with thw hoses coming out opposite sides of the knuckle. We found...

    Idea for gravel road

The chainlink will smooth the topsoil very well if the soil is dry and loose enough. But keep in mind if grades are not well defined all the fence is going to accomplish is filling voids...loosely. ie it will probably settle again and the process will have to be repeated. Take a look at...

IS there a good answer to the question of what to do when the tail wags the dog??

    Tub Grinders vs. Horzontal Chippers

It seems to me the main pro of the horizontal cheaper is that is a much cleaner operation. Those tubs tend to throw stuff out the top quite a ways. I've not seen the track kind shown by Hvy 1ton though but that setup looks pretty nice. The horizontal I've seen is actually mounted to a...

    Where are the labororers?

I hate to say it but people have become complacent and believe they DESERVE all the benefits of the american dream. I believe they saying is..."the pursuit of happiness". To me that means it must be earned. But lately it seems that if you can fill out the application and show to work on the...

    Boots

Been wearing red wings for years. I went to try on a new pair just this past winter and for some reason they didn't fit right. Same style, model and size...etc. Apparently they are now starting to make them in China instead of here and the arhc support is all screwy now. I tried pair after pair...

    more pics of equipment stuck!

Testing the limits of traction on your tracked machine will definitely enhance your education!.. We had a brand new D8n get stuck in a lake we were building when we hit an underground spring. The rear end sank to to the fuel tank and she started sliding deeper and deeper. The Pc400 had barely...

how to deal with a lieing super

Is he lying? or doing the usual corporate double talk to keep from giving you a straight answer? Either way here's how it works for me. We have a set hierarchy in the company I work for. For instance Problem with a laborer or operator-report to foreman or super. Problem with a...

    Where are the labororers?

We have the same problem. Move from state to state at least once per year and the headache of finding decent labor almost makes it worthwhile to pay travel and keep the same labor. I don't know what's wrong with some people these days but I started at the bottom and much better for it. Too...

    Flat grousers!!!

When they're done with those tracks we'll probably take 'em....Well probaly not. Sometimes we'll grind down grousers on our smaller dozers to make them lower profile as they do much cleaner finish grade work. Which makes the box blading and grass prep so much easier.

how many hours to be "experienced"?

WOW! That's alot. After seeing our eq. I figured 20,000 was pretty good. I'm sure some of it has to do with the fact that we NEVER work flat ground as we shape golf courses. Lost of short pushes, lots of backing and odd angles of attack. I'm sure it doesn't help that many times eq. goes to...

    Um, what were they thinking?

Sincerest Apologies Those photos were sent around to "wake everybody up" to seriously considere safety on a daily basis. No offense meant

    Um, what were they thinking?

This is pretty bad too. This one has gone around our company a few times. Anybody know what kind of dozer that is. Drive sprocket center high? There are more pictures but they get real gross as you see the rest of the operator

    Drainage Contracts?

Regardless of what type of drainage you're putting in here's what i think. Definitely need to take into account: Soil type Rock Clauses if necessary Depth as it pertains to how much pipe you'll be able to get a day(this is huge if its deep) Dewatering? Trench shoring?

Is there a better way to retrieve your retainage faster??

I've found in many cases that if you are in regular contact with the owner and, if they have one, project manager one can usually negotiate release of at leastr part of retainage. Especially if materials installed costs are included in the total retainage calculation. For instance if we...

how many hours to be "experienced"?

I agree with adr02 to an extent. With the price of steel and fuel these day's we're all cutting costs and asking more from our operators and machines...within reason this kind of experience can make one more well rounded and a better asset to a company. The company I work for has several...

Golf Courses Need Dirt Too Here's some of the smaller jobs we do. This place hosts the PGA's BMW championship in Lemont, Il. We moved less than 40,000 yds of dirt on this project. http://www.coghillgolf.com/photos.html

    How Did You Find Us?

I found this site through internet search when trying to find some technical data on some of our heavy eq. Our main shop is only 1500 miles away and I get to wear the mechanic's hat on site. Necessity is the mother of invention.
