    Looking for BackHoe

I had a meter on the heating element and it showed it was drawing 1000 watt. (980ish, something like that) I don't know if it is a 1500 watt thats gotten weak ? I feel like the block heater worked a lot better when I first got the machine. Plus, after a while I needed to charge the batteries...

    Looking for BackHoe

Hi Everybody who replied, I know this post goes back to 2008. and I don't mean to take over the original post. I'm now showing an interest in starting my JD 310c during the Winter to remove high volume of snow. And plugging in the block heater isn't doing the job because when the coolant is hot...

When Looking at a Used Machine...How Many Hours are Too Many

There was mention that some machines did not have a history file when looking to buy a newer machine. I feel if there is no history on file on a newer machine that smells fishy to me and I would stay away from it, or dig deeper, of course there can be a few legit reasons why no file history...

Block Heater, John Deere 310c Backhoe

You guys nailed it!!! I can't believe I was always feeling the left side of the engine and it was always cold, so I just assumed the rest of the engine was cold… but after all the help you guys gave me I went to the right side and was so shocked on how very warm the engine was all on the right...

Block Heater, John Deere 310c Backhoe

I'm back….. The prior info in this post recaps how the engine coolant block heater was not working and when I cleaned up the leads and contacts I thought I fixed it…., but it is not fixed…, after plugged in for 4 hours the engine block is hardly warm to the touch, the temperature has been...

Antifreeze Coolant Talk on a John Deere 310c

Jeff, I found a good web site that talks about what you mentioned as well as some other things being practiced out there with engine coolants that I thought you might be interested in reading. http://www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/841/coolant-fundamentals

Antifreeze Coolant Talk on a John Deere 310c

Thanks Jeff, I never knew you could put nitrate in the coolant…. When choosing an antifreeze I do like to know how much Silicate is in it because over time I know it does wear out the thickness of the hoses and wears away at the seals and gaskets, I remember touching the radiator hoses back in...

Antifreeze Coolant Talk on a John Deere 310c

Hey Guys, While doing regular maintenance testing the coolant protection on my 1988 JD 310c backhoe and it seems to not be enough protection for cold weather and not good protection for running in hot temps. it's only at -10F (+261F). I hardly have 300 hours on it since I drained and...

Block Heater, John Deere 310c Backhoe

Like you said Delmer, that had to be it "a bad connection", it sure fooled me this time around, next time I won't be so quick to go over the preliminaries when diagnosing. Oh well, at least we now know a 1000 watt engine block coolant heater on a 1988 JD 310c is 13.5 Ohm across the pins lol…...

Block Heater, John Deere 310c Backhoe

I checked the coolant heating element and I got a steady 13.5 Ohm across the two pins. I figure that might be too too low of a reading, but thats just a guess… so before I ran out to buy a heating element I wanted to recheck everything, so I now plugged it back in and now I'm getting heat right...

Block Heater, John Deere 310c Backhoe

Thank you for the info Iantraxco… I was thinking, when you mentioned it's common for the power cord to burn out where it connects to the heating element this is going to be some fancy and custom repair work if this happens to be whats wrong if I fix just the cord, but first I'll check with the...

Block Heater, John Deere 310c Backhoe

Back again after about a year and a half from asking questions about my engine coolant block heater. (It looks to be a JD Factory Installed Heating Element) It looks like my block heater burned out. I had it plugged in for an hour and the machine (1988 JD 310c) would not start acting like the...

JD 310C Dashboard Filter Light stays on too long when first starting.

Yeah I'll get to all that checking and taking apart of the by-pass valve. It will be a few months before I'm able to work on the backhoe. The temp today is 12º and snow all over the ground. (hope to build a garage some day).
