    Differences between a CAT D6 and a D7

Alfred, the D7, came out with the 7S Straight Blade that tilts many years ago. If the blade on this 17A doesn't tilt, it must have been changed out to a much older blade. Check and see if it has turnbuckles attached near the top of the blade. If it does, then it will tilt. D6 Bo

    Hourly rate

I have about 30 acres of 3 and 4 year old pine stumps 6" to 10" and many of them are rotten enough to kick over. I plan to clip the area with a pasture clipper. Southerman, have you checked to see how sound they are? D6 Bo

    Identify an old D6

The dry clutch does not make it weak. The oil clutch is more trouble-free. I have owned both.

    Identify an old D6

I don't know when in 1953 that the oil clutch came out, but since it is a 1953, it's a good chance it has it. The rails look pretty good also. I have owned several. They are tough tractors.

    Field Drainage Pipe

Thanks, Dirtdobber1 and Randy88. In prior years I filled in the low spot and have about run out of fill dirt. It is a lower side-hill wet spot and it does drain naturally. The 200' main line will begin in the lower side of the wet spot and run West along the highway. I plan to run two lines...

    Field Drainage Pipe

Thanks for all the information. Looks like I will go with the 4" perforated pipe and sock and use gravel in the wet area. Randy88, There is a PVC water main that runs through the area, but I don't think there is a leak there as it is wet uphill from the area and it completely dries up in the...

    Field Drainage Pipe

I have seen threads on here where drainage pipe is plowed in with tractors. What kind of pipe is used? The reason I am asking is that I have a wet area in my lawn that needs draining. All the pipe that I see such as Flex Drain recommends burying the pipe in gravel Which I do not want to do. I...

    Cable vs. hydraulic

Until the 1960's all the Cats around here were cable. The Internationals were hydraulic. The consensus was if you are going to buy a Cat get cable and if you are going to buy an IH, get hydraulic. I did own a 1941 IH Td 14 with a cable blade and it was the pits. Later, at different times, I...

    1952 Caterpillar D4 clutch issues

If this D4 is a 1952 model it is a dry clutch. Oil clutches did not come out on any Cat until 1953.

A Question for Deas on Burning Timber

I always heard 21 days. Not sure if that is right. Looks like it would depend on the temperature.
