    Hough 930

I think there was a thread on an H80B that someone on the forum bought and was fixing up a few years ago. It's bigger than a 530 but a little older.

    Strange buyer's

Then there is the flip side. You have a special tool or something you used once and it sat around for years so you got rid of it. Then 3 weeks later you need it again and you're kicking yourself for getting rid of it. You don't want that to happen again so now you tend to hold onto things you...

    Operators and Booze

TV certainly makes it seem like alcohol is a requirement if you have a high up position or apparently a higher stress job. I don't think it's a good thing to promote though. Just like smoking was made to look like the cool thing to do. Contrary to popular belief alcohol doesn't usually solve any...

And Julian always had a drink in his hand too.

    Building a Lake

You need to have working steering and brakes. 9000yd's is about 4500 buckets of dirt. That's quite a bit of work and a lot of driving. You'll want a decent running and operating machine. I wouldn't worry too much about 3rd gear reverse not working. You never really want to use it. It wears out...

    977L 11K machine vs 977L 14k machine

You never mentioned you knew the history of it. That's a big thing to omit. An inflame kit for $1450 seems too cheap. What brand and what does it include? I would think an engine that size could be $10,000 or more to rebuild. Fixing the leaking final drive could be a lot if work too. I don't...

    977L 11K machine vs 977L 14k machine

Do you have money burning a hole in your pocket? The engine could cost a lot to rebuild and who knows what shape the rest of the machine is in. You know it has 1 leaking final drive. What else could need repairing?? Why not look for a running machine?

    977L 11K machine vs 977L 14k machine

Probably need exact serial numbers for both machines. By yokes are you meaning the arms that hold the idlers? If the undercarriage is compatible I think putting the good set on on your existing loader might be the best bet. Do some oil samples on the final drives and look for chunks of material.

    Hough 930

I think they were 3yd. machines.

    Building a Lake

I'd be a little leery of a $7000 955L. Thinking there may be some potentially serious issues with it at that price. Bucket teeth adapters look shot and it should have some counterweight on the back. The nice thing about a loader is you can pick up material and dump it where you need it. You can...

    Hough 930

I was thinking of what Hough/IH loader was close and forgot about the 530. They were were pretty common and good loaders too.

    Strange buyer's

Yes. I think the guy was like most people, wondering if he's making a good decision without being able to try it out first. He said he was reading up on Dialarc's so that might have eased his mind too. Just got a text from him. "Stretching the legs of the old girl. Welding 5/32" for a couple...

    Howard Rotavator Selectatilth PTO Shaft

That's good. At least you can see how it all goes together.

    Strange buyer's

$100 extra per hour of driving.

    Anyone here rent equipment?

With an operator is a different story but then you're more of a contractor.

    Strange buyer's

It was good. With some people you never know. Maybe his wife told him I'm doing him a big favor driving 2 hours to meet him?

    Howard Rotavator Selectatilth PTO Shaft

Did they have any idea or at least a pic. of it from a parts book? I'd think a good machine shop may be able to make an adapter to use a standard PTO shaft. I'm not sure if the original Howard's used a slip clutch. Could maybe pick up a standard splined PTO adapter and see if a machine shop...

    Hough 930

Can you post a pic. or 2. Never heard of a Hough 930 but generally Hough were good loaders. Parts might be a little hard to find though.

    730A champion transmission question

You should start a new thread but try Jade Equipment.

    My D6D

You don't like it's made in India? I guess it depends on how good the quality control is and the Cat specs. for it.
