That's right Bob, Transmission oil is going into final drive. So we need to replace the damaged seals. Seems like a tedious and time consuming exercise. Any tips on how best to go about this? Any precautions one must observe while doing this? -

Hi Guys, Newbie here... Just so it is clear, which of these graders have 4 wheel drive (or All Wheel Drive, apart from the 143H), or at least the option to have it? Even with the huge tires they have, I figure they could still get stuck while working on very muddy roads in the rainy season, and...- madozer

What to inspect when buying Second Hand Bulldozer
Hi John, All I need is an estimate, or a ballpark figure, say 5-10k? If I am looking at a D7G with a ripper that costs say 60k, I just want to have an idea how much of that is due to the ripper, and how much the dozer would normally cost, without the ripper. That's it really. -

Say a D7G or a D8K... A ripper would probably be surplus to my requirements, so I just want to be sure it is not costing me a fortune when I am not really going to use it. I presume it is mostly used for tilling soil. Or could it be used to snap the horizontal roots of trees as well? -

D6 Merv, Thanks for the info that is so well put. So what does a good maintenance schedule entail for a D6 dozer for example? How often or after how many hours must you change out the engine oil and filter? The transmission oil and filter? Hydraulic oil, etc? What else should the operator be... -

Hi Crazycajun, That's heartening after the previous posts costwise...lol. I am nonetheless leaning towards revising my choice to maybe a D7H which has a bit more power than the D7G, and is a newer model. Btw, have you had any breakdowns at all, and if so, what was the problem? -

Thanks Cam85. I guess if it were the D8K, then I would have to go with the ones with a direct drive transmission then. Is direct drive more like manual shift? What has been the common problem with the D8N's in your experience? Or has it been a myriad of them? All D8's are thirsty... lol... -

Thanks Nige. When you say the D8L is too big, is that in terms of the horsepower, or in terms of the size/weight as well? Incidentally, the D9N is supposed to have 370hp compared to the D8L that has 335hp, from what I read in wikipedia, or am I getting that all mixed up? The issue of the...
