    How to bury a horse?

Sorry to hear about the situation. Might help things along to apply powdered lime to the remains before covering them.

D8H video This is how a real dozer sounds....

Good point and thanks for HD6 photos. Looks pretty comparable to my D4D. I always did like the design style of that generation AC iron. Most of us are looking to get the best/most machine for the money and some times that comes down to what we need/want one for. Any machine can be a money...

    D7G sold for high $

If the grousers took that type of abuse in 240 hours, I would be very suspect of the drive train condition as well. Most likely the machine had the hour meter replaced. Basically, it's all about the decimal. Leave it where it is and you get the price that is would expect the government to...

    Large dozer question

A D8K sounds like over-kill for the job described. Especially if your alternative is D6D plus an excavator.

    blade choice

As usual, Ozdozer is right on point. Unless you specificially need to do production moving of relatively soft material avoid a big, wide and high U-blade. These make the machine look more formidable but make the machine nose heavy and difficult to pioneer or work rocky conditions with...

D8H video This is how a real dozer sounds....

Finally! This was my point for posting the video to begin with. That being said, I am always amazed at the analysis and perspective available on this forum. I mean there were alot of great comments and observations that I never anticipated. Next time I have a chance, maybe I will post a...

    Who Backdrags?

For me this is another deja vu moment with one of life's mysteries solved. I remember 40 years ago when one of my coworkers sarcastically told a mine owner that, if he would mount blades on the front and rear of our D9Gs, they could move more material. The company would just need to hire some...

    Cat d6c

I have never owned or operated a D6C but understand that the D6C power shift tranny is very reliable (even used successfully in some later model D7F applications). Typically, power shifts are preferred for frequent direction changing applications (ie general dozing). Standard shifts are good for...

How heavy is a JD 350 final drive?

Hi, basic final drive with bull gear and axle (but no sprocket) is about 150 lbs. The bull gear and axle weigh about as much as the housing itself. So you should be fine hauling two (about 300 lbs.) in a Subaru Wagon.

    d8h decisions

What they said!!! Plus, a D9H's D353 will never sound as good as the ol' D342 D8H under load!

Deere 350 snapped axle can a new spline be put on?

My family has owned several John Deere including 350, 2010 and 440 crawlers. Some of the final drive bull gear, pinion gear and axle parts did interchange between 440, 1010 and 350 crawlers. At this point, I am not sure which ones they were. I do know the final drive housing from 1010 was...

    6r vs 850j

Watglen, you did a nice job of summarizing the comparison between the two units being considered. As usual, you got good info in responses from members. (I am always especially in awe of Ozdozer's knowledge and ability to enlighten). My family has owned several older John Deere and Cat machines...

    Killdozer. Movie, 1974

I have a soft place for that movie because the D9 they used was an early model series G similar to the first one I ever operated. I always suspected the box like enclosure atip the fuel tank/behind the operator was for a radio control system. I recorded it one time when I came across it on TV...

turning up fuel on the D8

Thanks for the photos. Really nice looking machine. Carrying that ripper around generally takes a lot out of the machine's pushing performance. (Except going down slope when it can be really helpful.) I suspect turning the fuel up was helpful in compensating for this extra weight alone...
