    Maybe close to giving up

It took 6 months to land a good deal on the latest skid steer I bought. Be patient and stick to your budget and requirements.

compact tractor use vs skid steers

I run a skid steer for all the property upkeep tasks, firewood harvesting etc. and have found it to be more versatile and efficient than my brother's tractor. The only exception is for bush hogging the fields and discing - if that kind of work will be the majority of your tasks then go with the...

    What is too many hours

I have heard 6000 hours as a rough life expectancy for bobcat skid steers, but I would add that 1000 hours concrete busting is way worse than 3000 hours cleaning horse stalls! This particular machine is overpriced IMHO. Before I buy or sell I run through the adds in machinerytrader.com...

Correction - the dirt bucket is 55" not 60"

    Bobcat 743DS 1899hrs $6500

Bobcat 743DS, mid 1980's, for sale with 60" dirt bucket and pallet forks - 36HP Kubota Diesel - Aux Hyd. work great, new flat fittings, 11gpm - Tires in good shape - New glow plugs last year - New starter this year - Steering levers just adjusted - Bobcat Service Manual (worth $100) -...

    Tires with ott vs tracks

I run one wheeled bobcat (743DS) and one wheeled with steel OTT (773G) - the steel OTT is lightyears ahead on traction in the dirt/mud pushing large trees over, grubbing up stumps etc. I have heard so many horror stories of high cost maintenance to the undercarriage on the rubber tracked...

    Best Method for selling dozer

I have bought and sold equipment and trucks over craigslist - it is free and you wouldn't believe how many folks see the ads.

    What oil for skid steer?

I haven't heard that motor oil could be used in the hydraulics for anything other than an emergency. The additional ratings on motor oil should match whatever your machine calls for in the owners manual - I think diesel wants a CD rating normally.

Bobcat 743 60" dirt bucket floor how thick?

I see from Wikipedia that T1 is A514 - higher strength, abrasion resistant. I am assuming that 1/4" mild steel with wear bars made from the same material will be sufficient for light duty. I am hoping to get about $6,000 for the machine (1900 hrs) with this 60" bucket and a set of forks so...

Bobcat 743 60" dirt bucket floor how thick?

Thanks for that help. That makes me feel I really should go with the 1/4" instead of the 1/8". Can't justify spending cash on a more specialized steel right now.

Bobcat 743 60" dirt bucket floor how thick?

I should mention for those not familiar with the smaller Bobcats - this is a 36HP machine with a 1300lb tip weight. This limits what you can expect to do with the bucket.

    old diesel fuel- problems?

I understand that Diesel is hydroscopic (attracts water) and is vulnerable to a particular bacteria. I treat all the diesel I put in cans with a diesel fuel preservative (I burn 10-60 gals per month) since it can sit for a while at my property.

Bobcat 743 60" dirt bucket floor how thick?

I am getting ready to sell my Bobcat 743 but the floor of the 60" dirt bucket is just about gone so my plan is to replace the floor before listing the machine. The problem is I am not sure how thick to make the floor. If I were keeping the machine I would use 1/4", however I don't want to...

Foam filled tires with over the tire tracks

That is true - I can really feel it when I am uprooting large trees with the stump bucket - the tires and tracks practically glue the machine to the ground. I am going to need to meditate on this, it is so nice to have OTT I hate the idea of running without them.

Foam filled tires with over the tire tracks

    I see. I have a Bobcat 773G - is that machine vulnerable?

Foam filled tires with over the tire tracks

I saw that in the owners manual for the tracks. They were on the machine when I originally bought it and it runs so well I just ignored the warning  Does anyone know what the concern is with running OTT on foam filled tires? I have had to fix flats in the field and it sucks raw eggs...

    Hauling a bobcat

I use one chain and one load binder on each corner of my 773 when I haul it - even for short distances here in Virginia. Since each corner has tie down points it is pretty easy. The idea of putting a chain over the front or back with a load binder seems dicey to me. I imagine some numbskull...

    Skidsteer Purchase

I am a landowner, don't do it for pay so my situation may be similar to yours. I have a few skid steers for use on the property and for firewood harvesting, tree felling to feed a 10 cord/year furnace. I have both a Bobcat 743 (wheeled) bought for $6000 and a Bobcat 773 (steel over (foam...

Foam filled tires with over the tire tracks

I run Loegering metal tracks over foam filled tires on my 773 and absolutely love it. The weight of the tracks and tires together make the machine rock solid for uprooting trees and handling heavy tree trunks with a grapple. I have noticed that the tires slip some inside the tracks when I get...

Bobcat 756 no fuel to the lower filter

Had similar problem on my 773. Just replaced the fuel pickup line on my 773 and I discovered it was A LOT easier to put the pickup tube on the elbow used for the fuel return and leave the pickup elbow alone (it is under some other gear making it MCUH harder to deal with). Since both lines come...
