KOMATSU 240 ton 4 wheel electric drive 4 steering 4 braking 4 electric retard

No lazy operators calling in BS faults so they can park up and sleep, either.

    D7E opinions???

I have heard rumours of a Cat mining dozer with electric drive, but I'll believe it when I see it. Would Cat bother since they own the mining dozer market anyhow?

    D7E opinions???

Basically, it's like a diesel electric drive dump truck or locomotive. The diesel engine drives a high voltage alternator that produces, say, 2000 volts AC. This voltage is fed into the drive system box, where it is rectified into DC high voltage, this DC voltage then goes into the IGBT...

    D7E opinions???

D11 with electric drive system, now that I would like to see. Would push dirt brilliantly. Plus it gives electricians like me more job options.;)

Cat 793F Haul truck engine, main & big end bearing issues

Maybe this is part of the reason I've been seeing 793F trucks being hauled to Cat dealers, the word I heard was some fairly major chassis cracking but this sounds like another issue too.:beatsme

    500ton trucks...

Anyone had much to do with the Cat 795? Looks like it'd be a pretty good truck. Wouldn't mind working on one and seeing how they are.

Next Caterpillar face shovel ready for assembly

Where's this at? First thought would be the Hunter Valley, Ravensworth North? Looking forward to more pics, shovels are great.

    500ton trucks...

Central Qld for the last year, was in the Hunter previous, both with Hitachi. I've seen a few pics of a 795 and the wheel motor housing looks damn small compared to the Hitachis and Komatsus. I've had people try to tell me that the 795 still runs a diff, but that didn't sound right to me. In any...

    500ton trucks...

Think you missed the point. That was kinda tongue in cheek. I haven't touched a 795 (but would like to) All I know is that they have a Mitsubishi drive system - Mitsubishi are tied in with Cat in some way. Cat were in talks with Siemens to equip the 795s coming to Australia with their drive...

Nah they'd just buy out another company to get what they want.

Hitachi wouldn't sell any to Cat....

    Yeah mate, earth = ground.

    An argument against joysticks

I can't speak for the smaller machines, but the 16M and 24M are IMO, garbage. Way too unreliable. Had a 16 last week that kept burning out the secondary steering motor, was traced to a couple of dodgy earths behind the dash. Been many more steering faults before that too. Then there's leaking...

    New Toys

I'll agree to disagree then, we have 3 3600s now that the shovel is off hire and they give minimal trouble and pump out good numbers. Not too bad to work on either, well set up for maintenance for the most part. Certainly easier to access that say, a Liebherr. I have no experience with Cat's...

    New Toys

The EX 3600-6 is a fine machine, backhoe or shovel config? At work here they're getting rid of the 3600 shovel, even though if they used it properly, it'd be one of the most productive diggers on site.

Siemens drives are so rubbish. I work on Hitachi drives now and they're 10000 times better.

    Question, M series in OZ

Well the M is basically a supercomputer on 6 wheels. I'm kinda surprised JD hasn't put out some bigger graders for the mining industry. Have only heard excellent reports on their other graders. Think they've misssed an opportunity with the endless issues of the M series.

    Question, M series in OZ

In Queensland there's M series graders with the conditional registration. Lots of JD graders getting around now. The JD is reportedly a top grader, plus, if the 16Ms at work are anything to go by, the M series, steering faults and tandem leaks are par for the course.:beatsme

    Cat 795 electric drive trucks

Good move by Cat then. There's a new Hitachi EH 5000 on the way too, a site in Queensland are getting a fleet. Will be a MAJOR upgrade on the old EH 5000 on the basis that the new model will have Hitachi's own drive system instead of the previous POS Siemens. I heard direct from a Siemens tech...
