    New Holland, Case or Gehl?

Thanks for all of your advice guys. Seems like my budget might be an issue...big surprise! Really didn't want to spend more than $12,000 on the machine as I will be needing $ for brush mower and forks...(not a lot of dirt work to do with it). -Wanted to go with a larger frame unit and long wheel...

    New Holland, Case or Gehl?

Thanks tmc31. Looking at an lx 985 right now. They don't seem to be as common as the LS 180/190 but appear to be strong units (I guess). I'm hoping that if I go that route I can address the seat and seat belt switch issues that seem to be so common. Have heard of guys wiring toggle switches in...

    New Holland, Case or Gehl?

Thanks so much for the advice guys. I think I'll check out the specs a little closer...wheel base. Swannny, is 6000 hrs an awful lot for a Gehl 6635 with the Deutz? -I know.....it all depends....but assuming basic routine maintenance and replacement of the timing belt. I was looking at a unit...

    New Holland, Case or Gehl?

I'm looking to buy my first skid steer and need some advice. I think I have narrowed it down to New Holland lx885 or ls180, Case 70xt or Gehl 5635/6635. Will be working on farm and in timber with many hills/ravines running a brush cutter, moving logs & brush piles, light grading. No really...

    Gehl 6635 Deutz

I would like some opinions on the Deutz engine used in the Gehl 6635 sxt '98 model. I am looking at a machine with around 6000 hours on it. Are theses a long-lived engine or will I be looking at a major rebuild soon? 6000 seems like a lot of hours. So please chime in all Deutz owners!!! Drive...

    New Holland LS190b opinions?

Newbie here. -Never owned a skid steer but operated some. Would like to know opinions on NH LS190b. I am looking at an '04 unit with about 4000 hours. Primary uses will be clearing timber and brush / logging and maintenance of creek banks. The terrain is pretty rough and I hear that NH makes...

    943 Undercarriage cost?

I don't own a track loader yet but have been looking. Found a 943 that will need some uc work. Pads/grousers look "ok" but will probably need new hardware. Bushings are beyond gone with many cracked so will need all new links (I assume). Needs sprocket segments. I assume rollers and idlers...

953a vs TL12 takeuchi track skid steer?

Hey there Georgia Iron. I hesitate to respond, being a newbie and all but here goes... I think you should go with the CTL but ONLY if you sell the 953....to me....yeah I'm looking for one. I would be more than happy to take that old, slow, heavy 953a off yer hands!

    Looking for a track loader

Well, I guess I'm getting steered to the 43, 53, 63....you guys are the best. Seems to be a ton of 963 out there and I'm sure for good reason. Did a little research into engines...3204, 3304 and 3116. -Can't say that I get the warm and fuzzies but of course, a lot of times guys are on these...

    Looking for a track loader

thanks for all of your help guys. -Was just looking at a 1978 955L on machinery trader at Michigan CAT, $12k I believe. Even has 17" wide track shoes from what they are saying....seems to be a bit wider than most. Did those units have the sealed and lubricated tracks? they say a few links...

    Looking for a track loader

thanks for the opinion alldodge. I think a 955 would be plenty of machine for me. Do you know if CAT ever had an LGP version? was looking at specs and they are saying 15 in track width....boy, that seems awfully narrow for 30,000 lb +. -will probably be keeping this machine for quite some...

    Looking for a track loader

I'd like to stay around 15k but definitely no more than 20k. Any issues with the JD transmission/torque converters? I have heard their engines are strong and pretty reliable. -Have also thought about a 655 possibly. How are the JD units for ground pressure? We have a JD 700J LGP at work...

    Looking for a track loader

I would like to get some opinions on various track loaders. I would like to buy an "all around" piece of iron for the farm/timber/creek. The creek is sand/gravel bottom and needs work preventing erosion, placing riprap, moving sand/gravel bars, etc. I also have fence row and timber clearing...

    Tier II Emissions

Does anyone have any knowledge of problems with any newer engines that are forced to meet EPA emissions standards? I would like to know of any engines to avoid. Emissions standards have crippled our trucks but not sure of any trickle down effect into construction equipment.

Who uses a skid steer only at home?

MarkinMass, sounds like we are in the same boat. Lookin for a machine that hasn't been beat to death, reasonable hours, 10 years old or so, 10k +/-. It's a tough find in the market for me here in the midwest. Appears that owners have their machines and aren't really eager to sell them. Lots...
