    New John Deere Grader coming.

Yes, that's why they make so many. I have been in a Galion, Champion, Komatsu, Deere, Volvo, New Holland, Fiat Allis/Allis Chalmers, and various Cat's. I can honestly say I like the current version of M2's the best. For me the good far out weights the bad. In a days time I will cover...

    New John Deere Grader coming.

Well a new Cat 120M2 was delivered today. After reviewing the new Deere 622G, it became apparent that it was the same old machine, just with updated pilot controls. Still has poor visibility down to the blade. Deere needs to redesign their Graders, and make them more friendly to operate. We...

    New John Deere Grader coming.

That is what I meant by the sticks being short. It appeared as though the arm would have to slide back and forth to work the control. I will wait and see how long it will take Deere to get a demo model to us. Won't make a judgment with out sitting in one. For now the Cat M is ahead of Deere.

    New John Deere Grader coming.

Got to see the photos of a Deere test mule with twin stick controls. The cab looked the same as current models, still has a square windshield. The controls were a t-stick with buttons and switches. It looked like the operator would rest their hand on top of the sticks. The sticks appeared a...

    New John Deere Grader coming.

Sorry for being gone. I talked with the Cat salesman the other day about the spy photos. He said that I could see them but not to post them anywhere. I will catch up with him tomorrow. I will report what they show. He said it was a refitted 870 size machine. From what your pictures...

    New John Deere Grader coming.

I talked with the Cat salesman today to see if he had heard about the new Deere grader. He replied that there was a new Deere grader roaming around in western Kansas. One of the Cat guys had seen it and got some pictures. He will send me some pictures tomorrow. He described it as still...

    New John Deere Grader coming.

One of the Townships I operate for is looking for a new grader. I like Cat 120M graders, as one of the 3 Townships I run for has a new one. The Township that is looking for a new grader is comparing Deere to Cat. The Deere salesman called me yesterday wanting to demo a grader since the last...

    Windrow of Rock

Well, I am sure this has been discussed before. But try as I might, I can not get search to help me. I maintain the roads for 3 Townships here in Missouri. 2 of the Townships are new to me this year. Cat has a strong hold here as all 3 are Cat's. A like new 120G, a well worn 140G, and a...

    Parking Lot Curb Stops

Hello, Been a long time since I have been here. I have been trying to find if the is a construction code regarding concrete curb stops. I had a contract to build 3 new parking lots. In the contract it spec'd 8 foot stops. I called my pre-cast supplier for a price when it bid. I did...

    Cut/Fill ratio - shrinkage

Projects too cheap Not to hi-jack your thread DPete, I had 4 contracts left over from 2009, but I am about to start a project that is about 125 miles from home. I only put a number on it because it is at a large lake. Thought it might be nice to work and fish. Another project that was 30...

    Cut/Fill ratio - shrinkage

I guess that I look at things a little different. A lot depends of the fill material as you well know. Here with this type of clay I plan on moving 1.3 to 1.4cy of material to get 1.0 cy compacted fill. I have worked material that had a cut to fill ratio of 1.1cy to 1.0 fill. Those were steak...

    Lowboy Strobe Light Wiring

I use the trailer marker lights. I installed a quick connect in the wiring at the back of the trailer, and just plug the strobe in when needed. This saves trying to wire in another circuit. If the amp draw of the strobe is the same or less than the marker circuit all is well. When I need...

    digging over drive motors

I am a believer, Now. While I have always tried to work with the drive motors behind me, for various reasons, fear of damage to the motors, more counterbalance, pulling the track tight on the bottom instead the top, and a off-beat safety reason, I never put a lot of effort in it. If in the...

    Never Seen This Before

Leaving town this morning I saw this pulled over by a Highway Patrol. I sure would like to have been a fly in that Patrol car.

Found another one that needed a home....

Sure looks like a 9300 to me. I have a 95 model 9300, 435 3406E, 18 speed. Been a good truck so far, very few repairs. We call it "Black Goat" due to the goat horn exhaust stacks.

The industry here is going backwards !

We are seeing the same thing here. The volume of work has slowed way down, while operating costs are up. Of course fuel is the leader but it is amazing how much everything from parts, to insurance has risen. Still when I bid a job I am beaten by some one who is working for costs or less. I use...

ZHKENT, Thanks for checking on the OSHA ruling, since I am from the Show-Me state, I know where you are coming from. It is my understanding that does not matter if you are a corp. or not. Only if you have any employees. I know that a partnership is treated the same. At the time of my...

Several years ago, before I had any employees, I was working a Federal Contract for some dirt work. The Engineer on the job was a young smart-axx,with no field experience. I was using a tractor pulling a pan and a dozer for the job. One morning I found a red ribbon tied to the tractor door...

    A/C backhoe anyone got one?

I own an Allis-Chalmers 715C, one of the last ones made. It has 4100 hrs. with out any major repairs, just some cylinder repacking. The first piece of equipment I ever operated was an A-C 615 gas model, back in the late 60's early 70's. I keep the 715C around as I don't use a TLB much in my...
