    Christy Yarder

Call them. They were still in business, as of last December. We’ve had a few discussions on the HEF if you look in the archives. 208-435-4114

Chrome shaft pitting repair back yard

I grew up fairly close to C.B. Bumper in the 80’s-90’s. This dude started a chrome plating business and restoration company in his barn. It was great for the local hot-rod and car community. Not so good for the neighborhood. He dumped the waste on the ground or in his septic tank. He...

    Falling Scrap Iron prices

Thanks, This one happened to be sitting on a leased container chassis. They had a rough life hauling salt, so the frames are rotted beyond repair and won’t pass a CSC inspection. These were made by Brenner in the early 90’s. Like you guys say, it’s probably best to sell them locally...

    Had new hydraulic rods made

I don’t have anything to add that hasn’t been said. They are probably a better machine shop vs a welding shop. Machinists that are trying to weld. Which is probably better than a welder trying to machine? IDK ?

Lets see your "ultimate" service truck!

Until this :( eventful day at JNU.

Lets see your "ultimate" service truck!

Speaking or being off-track, my service truck has wings. Ol’e N754KP. She was a helluva bird.

    Falling Scrap Iron prices

Fellas, What would be the best approach or options for scrapping these old dry bulk ISO tanks? The frames are steel with steel cast corners. The vessel is T316 6mm thick stainless, 5300 gallon capacity. The skins are aluminum with rock wool insulation underneath. 7500 lbs total weight...

    Has anyone else heard this?

    That’s crafty.

    Has anyone else heard this?

Some truth to that with 4 and 6 bangers. The randomness increases with 8 or more.

Normal Operating oil temperature for a 430hp Cat C13 engine in a 2007 Kenworth T800 dump truck

The rule of thumb with the ACERT engines is Oil temp runs 20 degrees F more than water jacket temp.

    Crazy truck prices

I’m going to bounce this thread. This is old 2057. I remember her. “We” sent her to RB after using and abusing her on the Dalton Highway for many years. She was rode hard and put away wet. Surprised to see her in Illinois, of all places. Shocked at the asking price...

    Genuine VS Chinese parts

That caught me off-guard. Apparently, Snap-On is selling a large cache of “new old stock” Malco pliers with Snap-On branding that were purchased before the factory closed. I haven’t been on a truck since 2019. But, I need a pair of these bad boys. The Snap-On logo pliers are twice the...

    Genuine VS Chinese parts

Lots of great Japanese stuff today. Silky Saws, Ko-ken hand tools, Lobtex wrenches, Mitutoyo. Only damn good precision measuring tool available since Starett was sold. Their various screwdriver brands and awesome. Thinking about it, I can’t think of any JDM stuff that’s bad. Probably the...

    Genuine VS Chinese parts

That was a terribly tragic what happened to the great people of DeWitt Nebraska, Peterson Manufacturing and the Vise- Grip brand. Malco Products purchased the old Peterson factory and started manufacturing OG American made pliers in 2019, but I think the wu-flu did them in. You can still...

    CAT 3304 Engine

That doesn’t make much mechanical sense. There are so many other factors at play, to be concerned about. I think the engine will be happy to run at some different speeds and be able to track around. It must have been boring just sitting in the same spot, spinning at the same RPM, all day...

    Genuine VS Chinese parts

China often sells the same stuff, off the same line, they build the OEM stuff for. Such as the recent Harbor Freight / Snap-on floor jack debacle. If you know what you are purchasing, there can be a huge savings. Or, the Walmart house brand vs Yeti travel mug shenanigans ...

Unusual erratic noise from hydraulic pumps (Hitachi EX300)

It’s cleanable. That’s why I mentioned a kidney loop filtration system. There are companies that offer that service that will come right to your door. I’ve also disassembled everything after a catastrophic failure and cleaned them that way.

Chrome shaft pitting repair back yard

Seriously, I’ve seen good temporary permanent repairs done with 60/40 acid core solder, or silver solder. I’d be worried about the solder falling out and contaminating the system on a high pressure, expensive machine.

Unusual erratic noise from hydraulic pumps (Hitachi EX300)

Interesting coincidence, ferrous contamination appeared immediately after fabrication. Hmmmm. And, that’s a lot of debris on the screen. Now, the pumps are screaming? Perhaps, check the case drain flow to see how healthy the pumps are. I would consider performing or hiring a contractor...

Mud in Fuel Tank - Cat 301.8C

One of the common and specific HUM strains is worrisome to people, pseudomonas. I haven’t found any research linking transmission to people from handling contaminated fuel. But still, I do take more precautions to avoid skin contact and breathing vapors when cleaning a tank with “algae “ in...
