To get an idea of hours left on major components get fluid samples if the seller is willing. Have them tested by your local Cat dealer. May cost ya a few bucks but may save ya 10k or so for a reman 3306. A lot depends on the previous owners maintanence practices. 11,000 hrs is generally...

    abs or cmp

I build logging roads in the Pacific Northwest. All of the timber companies that I work for use CPP/ABS on all ditch relief crossings as well as stream crossings that require a 48" or smaller pipe. CMP, a CMP Multiplate or occasionally a bridge is installed when larger/wider crossing are...

Anyone use a grizzly screen to screen one inch aggregate? did it work?

Never even considered a grizzly for anything smaller than 6''. Biggest problem with grizzlies is slightly oversise material getting stuck between the bars which of course can be mitigated by a careful operator if high rate of production is not required. My guess would be keeping grizzly bars...

    gravel road with Portland cement

During the late 90s I was working in the Portland Oregon area. A company by the name of Baker Resources sold a product called S.T.B. which consisted of basically 3"- rock, overburden and lime. All of which was mixed in a pugmill. It was intended for use as a subgrade material for streets in...

    DUMP TRUCK Karma

I suspect your karma will continue to repay you for some time to come. I understand that the oil and gas guys tend to be quite the good ol boy network that can be hard to crack. I'm sure you are well aware of the size and scope of the "Marcellus". As you are now on the list I can assure you...

    Radio communication

What is the situation at your placer mine? Is everybody usually operating machinery or is only one person on a machine, the rest on the ground operating stationary equipment? We live and die by simple cb radio's in the woods. Crusher, screen, loader, excavator and four or five trucks all...

    Help with Cat M318D

Without seeing it for myself, not knowing the situation such as how wide or tall or what, if any other obstructions or distractions were taking place I would assume.......... Inexperianced operator leans forward and slightly to the left to get a better view of the boom/stick height as he enters...

Nice job close to home but wet

Up here in Oregons Willamette Valley contractors deal with silty clays and high moisture content pretty regular. Obviously, if scheduling permits, the best thing to do is try to wait until June or July when high temps and lower humidity create better conditions for using this type of material...

http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/MCT/FORMS.shtml Oregon heavy haul weight tables cab be found here. Oregon still does not recognize 16 tire tandems as any more than a tandem with a maximum weight of 43,000 lbs. O.D.O.T. likes axles, lot of em!

Rent shop space, buy, build at the house or none of the above?

Commercial property can be a good investment in the long run but the additional monthly payment can be tough to handle during slow periods. I wouldn't consider this option unless you are planning on expansion, adding a couple of employees for example. I would go with the Home/Shop in the...

    BFG all terrains

Runnin BFG all terrains since 1999 on F350 4x4s. Overall best tire for my money. Get about 35,000 useful miles, excellent traction on dry gravel and dirt, pretty good on wet and dry pavement and dry snow. OK in mud and wet snow but tread pattern does seem to pack up pretty quick. Good enough in...
