    decel ?

I totally agree with grampa and Aussie Leroy. They foot the bill, you run like they want. Personally, if the machine has a decel, I use it. It taint there to scrape the mud off your boots.

    Silly Question

I've been on about every brand of grader except JD. That sounds terrible. Wonder why ANY company would utilize such an unorthodox control layout. It sseems that to many of us, operating becomes second nature. Your body automatically responds to your brain's commands. Some design engineer...

    Silly Question

Your thoughts on the D5 are entirely valid. I ran one for a couple of years doing oilfield work. While it's a great oilfield tractor, it's certainly not the easiest dozer to operate. Like you said, the operator certainly can't see a thing.

    Disc Harrow for Finishing

I've got a 35HP Kubota with a 3-point disk. If you have clay soil, smooth discs won't penetrate satisfactorly. I have a 6' disk with notched discs on the front gang and smooth discs on the rear gang. I learned the hard way that LandPride is probably the only disk worth owning if you're...

    Silly Question

Although I've run AC & IH crawler loaders...asnwell as CAT dozers, I've never been on a CAT loader. What is issue with it?

    7520 Scraper Tractor...

What I meant to say...andcdidn't...is that the JD7520 itself won't hold up to that kind of use. i've got quite a bit of time on those, and while they're really great farm tractors, their drive train won't take that kind of use for very long.

    Silly Question

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Case foot-swing. I'm sure that there must be operators who like it, but I'm not one of them.

    Silly Question

OK, I can't even get my post worded correctly. The NW is the only machine that swings with the RH, which is impossible for my brain to coordinate with my arm. The hoist clutch arrangement is bad enough, but the bass ackwards drum brakes...

    Silly Question

Even though I havd been in the dirt moving business for a good many years, there are still some pieces of machinery that KICK MY BUTT. Do any of you guys face the same problem? Just ain't got the knack for some equipment? For example, a couple of my bosses have made the costly mistake of...

Alright scraper hands which way were you taught?

Showpony, do you run the elevator backwards when ejecting dry dirt? The only time you'll see me do it is if the load is sticky wet clay. Never quite understood why most guys run them backwards in dry soil, but then there seems to be way too much that I don't understand. My grandpa had this...

Alright scraper hands which way were you taught?

Wow, that is incredible! Never saw such before in my life. Bet guys like you and Brian Hay get exposed to more situations in one operating season than many of us small-job old-timers see in a lifetime. Man, I bet that sounds sweet when all them big CAT engines fire up in the morning...and...

    7520 Scraper Tractor...

That's the same scraper that used to come, from the factory, with a 5010 tractor. So, the 7520 would be a bit overkill except that no 5010 ever dragged a scraper around like that. That 7520 won't last long under those kind of circumstances. Wonder why he runs paddles for unloading that kind...

    Smallest push cat?

Used an old D6 8U stickshift to pushload elevating JD760s in Oklahoma's muddy red clay while working a housing development.

    Allis Chalmers HD6 worth buying?

Ran one on a muncipality sewerline job, clearing right-of-way and backfilling. Really loved that little tractor. it was completely trouble free. The HD6 is the BEST (not the fastest...but the best... in my opinion) of the little dozers. If I could find a smoothly running HD6 with decent...

Alright scraper hands which way were you taught?

Looks like my teachings are somewhat out of date...maybe never correct in the first place. Now I didn't intend to indicate that I pushed any significant amount of dirt...just dragging the loose stuff. If you look at CAT brochures, you'll see what I mean...wish I could figure out how to post...

Alright scraper hands which way were you taught?

Guys, I hope that you'll accept my apology for bumping the topic a bit, but I'm still not entitled to start threads. My question is directly related to 'which way were you taught' though. When I look at the hundreds of scraper pictures on another web site, I see everyone loading with their...
