    Case 1840 loud vibration

I’ll second that. My motor mount was shot and the fan got into the lower radiator tank. Also blew out the suction hose on the rear hydraulic pump. Got that fixed and put in a new motor mount. Can’t believe how much better it sounds! I kind of thought it didn’t sound right, but couldn’t...

    Case 1840 fan/radiator issue

Well, I got the new motor mount installed the other night- actually went pretty smoothly! Today I reinstalled the radiator, etc. and got it running again. Sounds great now! I kept thinking it didn’t sound very good, and now I’m sure the metal-on-metal was causing issues before the fan hit the...

Well, I’ve ordered the replacement mount. Now to figure out the installation process! Many thanks to ALR!!

    Case 1840 fan/radiator issue

Well, this might be the problem! Also, appears that the rubber mount was in wrong as I pulled it out from the bottom, and no hardened washer up top. Now to figure out how to lift the front of the engine enough to drop in the new mount!

Thanks, I’ll have to check that out.

    Case 1840 fan/radiator issue

Well, the honeymoon with my 1840 has hit a few bumps. I went out a couple weeks ago and found a puddle under the back end. Seems that the suction hose between the hydraulic tank and rear pump sprung a leak and drained some of the oil. I got a new hose, replaced it and replenished the oil in...

    Seeking input on skidsteer purchase.....

Well, I see that my thread was brought up in response to another thread, so this is a good opportunity for an update. I’ve put around 30-40 hours on so far and am very pleased with the loader. Soon after I got it, I bought a very beat up Bobcat bucket with double grapples at an auction. I...

Best way to adapt bucket to narrow quick attach?

OK, don’t everyone reply at once! LOL Here’s what I ended up doing. I was able to use the material bucket that I got with the loader for measurements and a bit of a pattern. I went through my steel rack and found a suitable piece of 3/8 plate that I cut to size and notched for the pins. I...

Best way to adapt bucket to narrow quick attach?

Well, I got my new to me grapple bucket and discovered that my Case has narrow (about 21” center) catch pins vs “regular” Bobtach which is like 33”. My regular bucket has both wide and narrow holes on the plate, but the grapple only has the wide holes (see photo). Searching around the net, I...

    Question on used attachments.

my newly acquired Case 1840 states to use 10w30 oil in the hydraulic system. Do other brands also use 10w30 or do some use other things. Does it hurt to mix them? I just bought a used grapple, I think it was used on a Bobcat. I’m wondering if I need to purge the existing oil out of the...

    Seeking input on skidsteer purchase.....

UPDATE- Well, for better or worse, I pulled the trigger on a 1999 Case 1840. It has 1773 hours on the clock and from the condition, it appears legit. The seller bought it about a year ago from the original owner, an older gentleman hobby farmer. The seller only put about 50 hours on it and...

    Seeking input on skidsteer purchase.....

First off, thank you for all of the replies. Clarification on a couple of points- my tractor is VERYsmall. It’s a 23 HP-ish diesel. The tractor alone weighs around 1500 lbs. With loader, a 3PH implement and loaded tires, it might be 2500-2800. So, a 30 HP skid steer with 1000 lb lift would...

Also, I’d be interested to hear how many hours are too many hours. My thought is that I’d for sure like to be under 4,000 hours. Is that reasonable? Should I be more or less concerned about hours?

    Seeking input on skidsteer purchase.....

Hello all Occasional lurker and infrequent poster here. We reside on an acreage of close to 5 acres. Major features are a 500’ long rock driveway, a good sized pond and a metric ( ) ton of trees. Presently, I have a smallish Massey Ferguson tractor with loader. While it is handy, the machine...

Crushed concrete vs limestone for driveway

Thanks for all of the replies! In the end, I decided to spring for the limestone. Per the recommendation of the supplier, I went with 3/4" minus. This is somewhat smaller thatn the material that I used to have on the drive. I initially told him I figured I'd need 3 straight truck loads...

Crushed concrete vs limestone for driveway

Hi all. My 500 foot long driveway needs some work prior to winter. It has previously been covered with larger (probably 1" or 1 1/2") limestone which I hate. It doesn't smooth out well and with our drive having a couple of curves, the car tires tend to kick these larger rocks out the the...
