    Angle cylinder doesn't work

I have a Komatsu D37P-5A and the angle cylinder no longer works. When I try to angle the blade right or left, the blade makes a very short jerking motion (an inch or less )in that direction, but will not move as it should. If I put the blade against a tree and push, I can get it to angle. The...

    grading a driveway

I own a body shop, so I don't know much about grading, but I have had success doing what you tried. A guy from the Texas highway dept. once told me the best time to grade a road is right after a rain. Man there is a lot of truth to that statement. If it doesn't rain, get a water truck and...

Help needed for blown track adjustment seal

You should be able remove the track adjuster assembly by sliding it back off the idler yoke without having to separate the track. On my D37 Komatsu, I just chained the front of the track to the blade by running the chain thru the idler and hooking it to the blade. i then lifted the track off the...

    Komatsu Dozer Steering Issue

Can't see an inspection cover. It's difficult to see anything but the linkage going in. Guess I'll have to remove the seat. The piston referred to by JeremiahSr above I assume is the piston that activates the linkage on the outside of the clutch. I can see the piston cylinder moving when I...

    Komatsu Dozer Steering Issue

Seems like I might have heard it if that happened, but with the loose chain, it may have been trying to jump the sprocket at the time, so I probably would not have noticed. Thanks and I'll check it out and look for an inspection cover.

    Komatsu Dozer Steering Issue

So how do you figure out the cause and fix it? I know the linkage is working at least down to where it disappears inside the housing. I can see it moving just like the right side under the seat. You can also hear it lug the engine down a little when trying to turn left. I "fixed" my 82 Jeep...

    Komatsu Dozer Steering Issue

Both tracks spin against the dirt. Try to turn right and the right track stops spinning. Try to turn left and both tracks keep spinning.

    Komatsu Dozer Steering Issue

Jeremiah, I'll try what you suggested and let you know. When the left steering "broke" I was going along the side of a trench I was cutting with the blade and the dozer was tilted to the right at a pretty decent angle. Unknown to me, the track adjuster was going out on the left side and...

    Komatsu Dozer Steering Issue

My D37P-5A won't turn to the left. When I pull the stick to the left, I can hear it put a load on the engine, but it doesn't turn. The linkage is moving all the way into wherever it disappears into the machine housing. Looks to be the same amount of movement as the right turn makes...

    Komatsu D65E Serial Number Location

On my D37P-5A (1994 model), the serial no. is on a plate to the left of the seat down low. It uses Delo 400 motor oil in the engine crankcase, transmission, final drive, and hydraulic system.

Replace the seals on my angle cylinders, on my D37. I unhooked the shaft from the blade, removed the shaft and cylinder from the dozer and rebuilt it in my shop. Very simple procedure of replacing the seals. Komatsu had a seal kit that had everything I needed.

No Steering on my D37P-5A The steering on my D37P has always been a little weak. Now, the left steering is completely gone. Recently, the the left chain went slack (track adjuster seal went out) when I was in a ditch and leaned on the stick for left steering really hard and pumped the brake...

Identifying Master Pin vs. Master Link

No problem on the photos. The parts manual showed the seals going from the outside in. The last thing I did was smear a coating of oil on the rings, but I did it with my finger. I suppose if there's any dirt on the mating surfaces, it's gonna leak. I know I touched them, so should I tear it...

Identifying Master Pin vs. Master Link

John, the seal is accessed from the outside. It took a 2 foot pipe wrench and a sledge hammer to get the nut off the spindle. I made a puller for the hub and it took some serious stuff to get it to break loose. After that the seal was a snap. I've never seen a seal like it. 2 o-rings...

Identifying Master Pin vs. Master Link

Wow, thanks for all the good info. And please excuse my ignorance, but this is all new to me. I have no idea what kind of chains they are, but will look for an I.D. Pretty much had to burn the old master pin out all the way to the bushing on both sides to get it out. The replacement master...

Identifying Master Pin vs. Master Link

Finally got back to working on my machine. Found the master pin and got it out. Every pin on this machine has dimples. Was able to identify it by looking at the bushing lengths. Turns out there is some pitting on the shaft coming out of the track adjuster cylinder (see photo). Should I do...

Identifying Master Pin vs. Master Link

Komatsu D37 Identifying Master Pin vs. Master Link I have a Komatsu D37 that does not appear to have a master link on the track. The parts manual shows some tracks to have a master pin rather than a master link. The manual's illustration of the master pin is very small and without detail. On...

Doesn't appear that I have a gator clip link unless I'm looking for the wrong thing. If I don't, how do i get the track apart?

Darinray, thanks for the reply. Can you please give me some more details on what you mean when you say, "pull the track off to the side". Do you mean you can get it out of the way for removing the idler without unbolting the track? Also, what's a gator clip link? How would I identify...
