BC logging equipment left to rust

Thanks for posting those pics Torkel. Good to see shots of old Yarders instead of the modern machines. These are some recent shots of a machine I stumbled upon last fall. They have moved to another location from where they were.[/ATTACH]

I had the pleasure of meeting many of my co-workers from Sproat Lake Division last month - these were friends that I had not seen in 35 years, since the day I left the woods in 1982. The occasion was the life celebration for another friend from that time - Tom Russell. Tom passed away in early...

It would seem that two of these are Skyline machines. Here's a few more pics.

I stumbled upon these three Madills today in the Cowichan Valley. It seems that they were dragged down here from a boneyard in the Interior and are being rebuilt. The Skyline machine (fresh yellow paint) and the red one are ex M & B. That interests me..... I don't know the origins of the...

I set beads on the J73 when it was brand new on the claim. 'Cousin Four Eyes' was running it. They were using it with a 'Shot Gun' carriage at first, but switched to a regular set-up soon after. I think my closest brush with death was on that thing. That was only 38 years ago....

Great to see something from Sproat Lake Division. This truck was delivered in 1958 from a list previously posted on this site. Would it have been carrying out fire tanker truck or sand truck duties during my days working there in the 70's? Where is it at now?

Was 1.06 in Vancouver this week. I fill in Ladysmith before I head over here - always much cheaper there. I imagine the price here in YVR also got the 5 cent increase.

As we are both commuters to our jobs on the mainland, the conversation turned to where we live while there. Big place that Lower Mainland. Well it would seem that he stays just down the street from where I lived for decades. His next door neighbour tutored my son through school (gorgeous red...

As an update to this conversation - Mountainskidder and I finally met again for coffee this week in Chemainus. We hadn't seen each other in 51 years by my calculation. He hasn't changed much because I still recognized him. We are both busy people in our lives and our work carries us to the...

While you were looking at the Mars landing from the Dickson Drive side of the lake, I was standing in the water over at Smith's Landing, watching the same performance happening overhead. I was in awe. To this day I blame that early aviation exposure on my eventual career choice of the aviation...

I feel that I can't disappoint Hank R by taking this conversation totally private. I sent you a pm via my company email address last evening. I am still not completely certain of your identity which makes this all the more intriguing. Brad, Steve and Mike Yesowick of the sporting goods fame...

Hope the other posters don't mind this little side game we are playing here. There were three kids from McCoy Lake - Marlene, Rob Naesgaard and me - we were all in the same class because Marlene flunked grade 1. Rob N. has passed away but Marlene is still a dear friend. Dan Kingsley became a...

I was taking the ferry last spring and spied a fellow from my year with Mrs. Martin for the same grade 3/4 ordeal in 65/66. He and another guy were on the receiving end of her shoe for many a time. He grew up to be a senior member of the RCMP in the far north - now retired to Youbou. He said...

Mrs. Johansen taught my grade one class at Faber School. I'm still traumatized. I remember Sandra and Hughie Munch. The Chatwins, Supers, Schulzes and a few more. Did you used to head up the 'Honda Trail'? Al West was a Bullbucker before my time at Sproat Lake Division. Thought the Bruners...

Well now you have got my curiosity going.... Another 'Laker has joined the forum. My parents bought a house on McCoy Lake Rd. which supposedly started out at Great Central Lake as well. My Dad renovated that with additional bedrooms as well, for what was eventually a family of 5 kids. I...

Was M & B using any of these things before they started buying 009's and converting logging trucks for undercarriages? My first choker setting experience in 1976 was on the J-139 (track mounted Madill that came from Cameron to Sproat to end her years.) I too remember scratching my name on the...

I was just comparing the horizontal straps on the side of the cab and they seem to match the photos higher up on the page. I think it is one too. I could not imagine sitting next to a 12" exhaust in the cab at full roar as being very pleasant. I don't see much snow on the ground, so I wonder...

You seem to have quite the knack for research and the ability to render it down to a readable form. Ever thought of taking on the task of writing that book yourself? I still remember finding my copy of 'Working in the Woods' by Ken Drushka many years ago, and hoping that it was possibly a...
